I've been waiting all morning for Southwest to open up their dates for our summer trip. Well, they just opened them for after May 7. I ended up not booking because the cost was $124 EACH WAY from Chicago to Ft. Lauderdale (for our cruise). I need 5 tickets! I'll wait and see if I can get a better deal later.

Maggie - Keep watching them and checking constantly. We are flying them over President's Week and when they first released the fares they kind of jumped around a bit the first couple of days.

We can, luckily, fly out of several airports and wound up getting a great deal out of Manchester, NH. But Boston and Providence were not so great. For some reason Manchester's fares dropped the first day or so and we grabbed them. So hang in there and good luck to you!

OP; word seems to be hat flights are going UP not down, and SW allows FREE changes, you may want to consider booking and hoping for a reduction than RISK not getting anything better and probably even costing MORE.

So if you book on SW and the price goes down you can call and they'll credit your credit card ? (or is it a SW credit that you use for future flights ?)

Well, the southwest cost was as much or more than other airlines. I was hoping it would be cheaper because southwest usually is. But we don't like to fly southwest because we have to fly out of Midway Airport in Chicago which is on the south side and we live on the north side. It can take 2 hours to get there. I'd rather pay the same amount and fly united out of O'Hare which is only 45 min. away.

If you purchase a non-refundable fare from SW, and the price goes down, you can re-book, but you don't actually get cash back -- it gets kept on the reservation as 'travel funds'. So, to be honest, I don't think it's really that big of a deal, except if there's a possibility you would fly again within a year.

We rebooked our flights for our last Disney trip a few times, and had about $100 of 'travel funds' left over... but they came and expired before I got to use them so, I really ended up just paying what I paid when I first booked.

what happen if only one segment of the flight (inbound or outboud) has lower price but the other segment has higher price? do southwest allow price adjust on only one segment of the flights?

I like to book Southwest flights separately so that I can request a credit on one part even if the other does not change.
