Southwest Fares Here and Gone!

Can I ask what time the flights went on sale this past week for Southwest? We want to fly out in May (they go on sale on Oct 7) and want to get them ASAP to make sure we get a good deal.

I first checked Southwest  fares on 9/28 at 6:30 am eastern time and no fares but when I checked at 6:45, they were up :goodvibes

I also checked really early (started checking at 5:30 based on suggestion here) but they were posted at 6:45. They went up and sold out wanna get away fares fast!

Good luck!

I had NO IDEA flights were already released for Spring Break. I had Oct. 5th on my calendar and was all set to log in early that day.

I checked our dates and our flights are $443 per person (round trip) out of Chicago! There is no way we can afford this!!!

I can't believe they released the flights early. I've never had this happen in all my years of planning trips.

I've already checked AirTran, and they are only slighty cheaper.

I can't believe we may now have to cancel our trip. :sad1:

Totally understand your pain. The fares shot up in a matter of minutes. We split our trip between SWA and Air Tran. I was lucky enough to get decent fares along with the needed times in and out of Midway for the best priced RT airfare for us. It was pretty nerve-wracking for awhile. Good luck!

Keep watching Airtran. There will most likely be a sale or two before Spring break and you'll get much better fares than $443 round trip. Did you check Airtran out of Milwaukee?

I booked 2 RT from BWI to FLL on the morning they opened the new schedule. After all the taxes and fees I paid $602 for these 2 tickets. A couple days after I checked again. The exact same booking would now cost me $920:scared1:!!!!! Glad I booked when I did!

same here, we paid $1172 for 4 tickets round trip from mht to mco, now they are $1832!!! $293 per ticket vs. $458 per ticket. Even with the $293, i have never paid that much for a ticket before!

For break weeks, I never fly out on the main days. I normally to Tuesday to Tuesday. We miss a couple of days of school, but still get the good rates.

Well, I ended up changing our dates around to get a more reasonable airfare.

Instead of our trip being Sat. - Sat., we are now flying out early Friday evening and leaving early Sunday morning. I booked Southwest for the arrival date and AirTran for our departure date. Our flights are now @ $300 per person. I was lucky to get the last AirTran seats at $99 per person! I will be checking the Southwest flight regulary to see if there are changes in the price. We will probably stay at the airport hotel on our arrival night and our last evening as DH has hotel points to cover both nights.

I was hoping to pay only @ $200 per person, but this is better than no trip at all! Also, it's much better than the $450 per person I was initially looking at.

Time to find some rental car codes now.

4forMe: I am so happy that it worked out for you. I can imagine how you felt.

I'm really kicking myself here. Last week went on SWA site... wanted to go April 13 til April 20th and found one ways for $64!!! But, was looking out of curiosity, kept saying no, skipping spring break this year, will wait til June and really gotta work on not spending the money and skip that trip.

Well, came to my senses this weekend... sorry, no way we can wait till June! BUT... yep, so much for the $64 one ways. Cheapest I'm seeign is $131 one way.... and there is only one nonstop at that price - others are higher, or showing not available, sold out. checked other airlines... nope, just as bad.

We've gone that time frame before Easter the past 2 years now. First year booked in January and got $59 flights - and friend joining us booked in late February and also still got flights at that price. Hoping they go down drastically... if not, then yeah, sticking with original plan to skip spring break trip.
