Southwest Credit Question

We are traveling 4/18/2004 using SWA, for which I bought tickets 12/14/3. Our fare dropped today and I got about a $60 credit for each ticket (they are under 4 different confirmation numbers).

The agent said I have to use my credit by 12/14. Does this mean I have to actually fly again by 12/14 (my flight ending date) or does this mean I can use this credit to pay against tickets I will buy for next spring. Does this make sense?

I don't think there is anyway we could afford to fly again this year. We are absolutely going to go again next spring. Is anyone ever successful at getting this date extended? Does it cost a lot?

What have those of you with credits that you can use done with them? $240.00 is a lot to me. Does the credit have to be used on airfare only?

At first, I was way happy - now I am not so sure!

Thanks to anyone with any info. Have a great night.

Pam

I was just reading that thread - small world. I would find it hard to believe that one could get $ credited back to a cc, on a promotional fare. I hope Sawyermaw1 is right.

I would have no problem keeping the $ with SWA. We are closing on our DVC and will definitely be going back to WDW next April vacation. I would just love to be able to use the credit against the new tickets.

Anyone? Gail - hhhhhhhhhhheeeeeeeeeellllllppppppppppppp!

The best way to find out would be to call them, I guess (1-800-435-9792), they are quite efficient at answering the calls, I never wait more than 1 min on hold.

I would think that your new reservation that uses the credit has to be made within one year, not that the actual trip has to be within one year, but maybe I am wrong.
If you call them, could you please post what you find out? Thanks!

is exactly one year from the date I made the first ressies, 1/13. When you get your confirmation of changes from SW it should list the date the credit on the account must be used. The agent I spoke with also told me to be sure to keep the Confirmation number as that's what the credit is linked to.

But does this mean I can use the credit against a flight that I will book by 12/13/03 (my first ressie date), but not actually fly until April?

Thanks.

No, you have to complete your travel by 12/13/03.

Pam, did they send you a confirmation email? I just read mine and it says :
"All travel involving funds from this Confirm no. must be completed by 02/23/05",
which is one year from when I first reserved the tickets.
So I guess you should complete your travel by 12/13/03.. I would still call them and ask.

It is one year to complete the travel from the time you originally purchased your tickets. She should complete her travel by 12/13/03 and you by 2/23/05.

If you are not able to use the credit, you could use it towards someone else's airfare if you wanted. The funds could technically be for anyone's ticket.
I don't know if that would help any. We often purchase tickets for nieces and nephews and Moms. We have had summer plans fall through and we have used the ticket funds from the cancelled trips towards our own travel.

dcfromva - are you sure about that? That would be great if I could combine my credits - we have 5 separate reservations that I just rebooked so I have about $50 credit under each separate reservation. I'd love to be able to combine all of those credits into one and buy 2 tickets with it for Sept. (since it'll just be DH and I flying in the fall). Have you actually used credits under a different name before to purchase a ticket for someone else?

Thanks!

threeboysmom, Yes, I've used multiple credits to book airfare for a different person. You can use up to 4 separate credits per reservation, and you'll need to know the confirmation # and the name of the credit card holder for the original purchase. So, yes, you could use the 5 different credits to book airfare for you and DH, but you'd need to book separately to use all 5. Hope that makes sense! Southwest is the best when it comes to re-using funds!

THANK YOU!! Wow! I'm SO excited!!!!! Southwest cannot be beat! :) I now have $250 credit to apply to a future trip - thank you OP! :)

I agree with other posters and would give them a buzz to ck all options. Our tickets fr BWI - Ft Lauderdale just dropped $60pp. I called and rep gave me a choice of vouchers or credit our CC. I chose the credit. Before we were off the phone a new confirmation was emailed. Way to go SW!!!!

Regarding SW credit: please read my thread above on SWA Refund info: for those whose rates dropped..

As I posted on the budget board..some are being told credit will be put on card, some are being given credit. I always book on line, I have changed to a lower fare without any other changes. I always ask for cc credit, I'm always told no. I don't really care (maybe it's some kind of NYS law or rule, who knows), since we fly often, or I would use the credit for someone else. Either way, it's one heck of a company that gives you back anything/any which way, when they drop the prices..and make it easy to do on line to boot!

thank god i checked this board- i checked my flights and they went down by $400!!!!!! i am paying half of what i originally was paying

when i called SWA to tell them about the price change they told me as long as i don't make any changes to my flight between now and when i fly back that i will get a refund to my credit card- i have to call SWA after i return and request a credit card refund- and the attendent noted my refund on my itinerary!!

(DM Rick, I live in NY State & didn't have a problem with the refund- when you return from your trip i would call and request a credit card refund, couldn't hurt
:wave2: )
