Do you have to let the Southwest credit expire before you can request an extension? I need to book for December-but the credit expires in November. I hate to wait until they open Monday to find out that we can't extend it and the price has gone up...

Yes, you have to wait for it to expire, but then you have one year to make the call to extend it, for 6 months (from that phone call).

The amount (-$75) is emailed to you in a LUV voucher. It can take a few days, or a few hours to get that email. SW told ME that the LUV voucher does not have to be used by the original passenger, but I cannot confirm this, but I would be interested to know if this was true.
