Southwest coming to Newark!

Wow! That's great news!

I love my JetBlue :goodvibes but nothing wrong with a little healthy competition ;)

YEAH!!!!!:cool1: I'll now have 2 choices Philly and Newark! :woohoo:

Now here's hoping they will have some great start up fares from EWR!! :goodvibes

Outstanding news. I have not been able to find a decent fare on Jetblue in a long time, and I'm shocked at the fares that both JB and Continental are charging from Newark for various times next year.

We actually booked SW from Philly for our trip in February. If we can get them out of Newark, it would be great.

:cool1: I hope we can get good fares for either February or April...long shot I know...

Edited to add: it says they will start flights in March so April MAY be a possibility...

I can understand how you NJ people can be excited, SWA is the best airline IMO, BUT I hope it doesn't mean my PVD flights will be diverted there and no more nonstops for us :-( I really love my quick nonstops to the magic! Also the price goes up if more stops are included because taxes/airport fees are added :confused3 So here's hoping it's a good move for ALL of us!:woohoo:

Just a note - When SW came to MIlwaukee, they offered phenomonal rates - granted only a couple of seats per plane. By the time I found out about it - there wasn't a trip we could make out of the "leftovers". I.e. we could have flown out to Phoenix for 10 days, but not a long weekend.

I would monitor that closely - especially if I had an upcoming trip.

Thanks for the tip; I will set a reminder for myself!

Looks like Southwest may be coming to Newark Airport. Love to see that.

It's about time.

SW has been trying to get into Newark for years, but Continental has managed to keep them out.

We have never flown SW--tell me what's good about it?

From what I understand, they don't charge for luggage? :cool1:

Why can't you reserve seats? How does not reserving seats save the airline money? I could never understand that.

Why can't you just go on-line like you do with Continental and reserve your own seats?

Is the airfare really that much cheaper on SW?

Do you do the Ding thing? How often do they come up?

What I like about Southwest,
1. Price!!!
2. no charging for bags
3. schedule (also it rarely changes once they put it out)
4. credit for price drops
5. one way fares
6. friendly flight attendants
7. free snack and beverages

I think that Southwest is able to load a plane much quicker because they do not assign seats.

I have not had much luck with dings lately (PHL), I'm sure it depends on where you are going.

We have been flying with SW for a long time and have found the friendliest crew around every time we fly! That is a big deal for us when we have flown the unfriendly skys with our family.
WE save a ton of money by no paying for luggage, we cruise alot and a carry on just does not cut it.
No problem with the no assigned seats, we get our boarding pass 24hrs ahead and get our 'group' assignment and get a good seat.

We are planning a cruise next year leaving out of New Jersey so we will be flying into Newark- while I don't like the airport, I am happy SW will be flying us there...
