I was going to sign up to the Southwest credit card to take advantage of the 50,000 bonus points, enough for 2 roundtrip flights, but after reading the fine print I learned that previous cardmembers are not eligible for the bonus points. I had a Southwest cc that I canceled 2 years ago, so that makes me not eligible. So Bummed! Just wondering if there are any other similar offers out there.

Both me and my husband had cards, cancelled them and got new ones with the 50,000 points

I was looking into this card too, but don't you have to spend $2000 to get the 2 free flights?

This is how I read it to. You have to spend $2000 and wasn't that within 3 months? Man, I should've gotten it before I had my root canal! I would've been half way there!

Just got mine in the mail today. I will use it for regular everyday stuff and then pay it off each month. It should be pretty easy to spend $2,000. Especially since our 11 yr old projection TV just broke and we need to buy a 50 or 55" tv in the next few days.

I cancelled my first card about 5 months ago. Applied and was approved instantly for another one. Yepee...... another 50,000 points in my account.

Yes, you do have to charge $2000.00 within 3 months. We have ordered heating fuel, so that will take care of at least $1900.00.

My BF got the card last month - charged most of the Disney trip on it & got the 50k points in less than 2 weeks! Was able to get THREE RT flights from Dallas to MCO & still have plenty points left!!

OP, I would suggest you try applying anyway as quite a few people on these boards have reported closing accounts & reopening with no problem. Good luck!!!

With my card we bought a new fridge and dishwasher that I needed anyway (had the money to pay off immediately). My hubby's card that we just got was used the day we got it to pay off our august trip. We will transfer the points to air tran and use for a trip to the Dominican Republic. 19,200 point = round trip anywhere on air tran.

Is the 50K points a better deal? How do I get on the mailing list for that? I have never gotten offers from SW.

Thank you. I did just that.

Now my question is this:

The offer for 50K says it covers two flights. Since the other offer is for 2 flights, aren't they roughly the same offer?

I thought I had seen people post they got more than 2 flights out of the 50K point bonus?????

Dawn

Just google southwest 50,000

It would depend how many points per flight you book. We fly from Long Island we can always find flights between 6k-8k points. For August we booked 4 round trip tickets on my points which were around. 55,000.
The great thing about booking on points is that if you cancel your reservation the points automatically go back to your account with no expiration.

Oh, I didn't know they had any flights for points as low as that.

I will go over and see how many points our trip will be.

I just got my second SW card. I stll have my older, different card. I was told I would get the 50k points again.

Those 50k points got us 4 round trip flights from Manchester, Nh to Orlando. My husband got the card too, so we have 8 flights. Plus we do the survey sites for rewards and have earned another flight. I love this card!

I'm a flyertalk "junkie" (a site, like this one, where you learn the ins and outs of FF programs and how to stretch your $$ and miles) and learned that there are 2 SW credit cards (one with $69 fee, the other with $99) as well as business account. Folks can qualify for a CP if they "earn" 110K miles a year... so if you open 2 credit cards and make the 2K spend on each you've already earned 104k miles (unless you've got some bonuses for flying etc that year). you only need 6K more to get CP which gives you an extra ticket FREE each time you buy with $$ or points a SW ticket.... really helps.
DH just opened a personal and business account in January. Made the spend quickly and before the beginning of February had earned CP priviledges... for 2013 and 2014. Really will help in future planning of family trips.
Something to think about.
Carolyn
PS on flyertalk they mentioned with Chase cards if you've opened and cancelled a card with at least 1 1/2 time between you shouldn't have a problem.

It gives you 50,000 points, and we have flown for two years for free on these, and I still have 6900 left. I am about to cancel because my $69 renewal date is approaching. It was totally worth it, in my opinion, because back when I applied I just had to make a purchase, period, no minimum. I charged a meal at BK and got my 50,000 points.

It depends on where you are flying from. When we fly out of OKC we don't get great bargains on miles needed. Certain cities require less miles, wish ours was one of them.

Spent some time looking at flights to/from various airports on both ends.

If I fly from Charlotte to Phoenix off season I can get it as low as 12,00 round trip.

That can pay for 4 of our 5 flights out there.

I have applied.
