Southwest cancellation question

I have a flight booked for four of us, round trip from MHT to MCO. The fourth person is now saying that she might not want to travel with us - she wants to fly down a week early and meet us in Orlando in order to visit some other friends.

I have cancelled and re-booked SW when fares dropped but right now if I cancel and re-book for just the three of us the fare would be higher. If I called Southwest, will they cancel just one person on a four person confirmation and leave that fare money in my ticketless travel account? I don't care about getting a refund - I haven't booked September flights yet so I will be using the funds shortly.

Thanks in advance.

You might call to see if it is allowed but my understanding is that when you book one of the discount fares and put multiple passengers on one booking number, you cannot just cancel one of the fliers if you want to cancel but must cancel all. It is the reason that I usually separately book any person that I am not 100% certain will be going.

Thanks - I think I will be separately booking in the future as well!

I've never done it myself but heard others say they've done it. If 4 ppl can cancel w/o penalty, I don't see why just 1 can't. I believe you just can do it yourself online, a SW rep should be able to help you.

I have done it once, you have to call but they were very helpful. They had to separate the person from the reservation and create two then cancel the one who isn't flying. Now I just book my family on one reservation and anyone else separately. This way they are also responsible for checking in at T24 :) as well.

So give them a call and good luck.

I've had to do this before also. Call and explain that one person (or wants to change their flight) and ask them to split that person off from the original reservation. They'll give you a new confirmation number for the "odd man out" and THen you should be able to deal with thei confirmation number separately from the whole reservation. Sometime, the minute a "phone" person handles it, you limit your on line changing options, but sometimes not.

FWIW I frequently book every single person separately. I like the maximum flexibility it offers. However, it's a real pain to check all in. We never get boarding number together!
