My sister will be flying southwest with her grandson. He will be a lap infant. Can they check his stroller and carseat? Will that count towards their two bags?

Strollers and car seats do not count toward the 2 free bags.

Just as a side note, I recently returned from MCO on a Southwest flight. My checked hard-sided luggage was damaged somewhere between check-in at the airport and the baggage claim belt. Our bag was in perfect condition and working order when we checked it in at the airport. When we grabbed it from the baggage claim belt, the recessed handle was broken at the bottom and a piece of it was missing. They do not handle checked luggage very gently, to say the least! So, you may not want to check them. You might want to gate check them instead.

Gate check may be better, but not great. My daughter's wheelchair was damaged on a flight this year. We saw the baggage handler throw it from the window. If you gate check, I suggest purchasing the special bags for added protection.

If it doesn't count towards to the two free bags, does that mean she won't pay at all or that it is an extra charge. None of the airlines handle bags very well, and it can happen anywhere. I get that. But still looking for the answer to my question.

Of course. That's awful about the wheelchair.

Alas, it's still better (for things that can be checked) than being sent through the bowels of the baggage handling machinery!
