Southwest anyone book feb? Break using points?

I've called Southwest on this before and they told me that the reason the price was higher was because they only had so many tickets at the lower price. I'm curious if this is really true. Did you get 3 at a lower price and then 2 at a higher price? Airlines make me crazy with their games!

I only had around 90,000 points to use so I played around with the passenger number to see how many tickets I could get with that amount. It did seem to me that the more people I added the more the point amounts went up. We are flying out on Saturday and back on Friday so I knew those days would greatly affect the points needed.

I booked my two paid for tickets one at a time since I had the vouchers. Even those two tickets booked right after each other were different in price by $ 10-15.

It is a total guessing game to me on when is the best time to book. I just watch and see a fare I feel comfortable with and book it then hope for a reduction later.

Hope this helps and you get what you need!

It is better to buy 1 ticket at a time (or at least check first). I have had it happen where 2 tickets were 5K each, but when I put the 3rd person in it wanted 7500 each, so i booked the first 2 at 5k, then the 3rd person at the higher rate, saves a ticket in price right there (numbers are made up). Also, to the person who didn't want to risk buying only the front end of a ticket, when buying with points, the tickets are fully refundable back into the RR account who bought the tickets, so there is no risk. This is also true with re-faring. I often times will buy the tickets & then check daily to see if a cheaper rate comes out (note, again, i have had to re-fare one at a time to get the best discounts).

We are flying R/T from Omaha Ne to MCO 1-21 1-26. I know this is value season so I am taking my kids out of school. I paid $500 for 3 tickets and used around 30,000 points to cover the rest. I will continue to watch the fares to see if they come down at all. Great deal for us.

When was this the conversion rate from dollar fares to points? I am looking at direct flights from BWI to MCO, for $98 one way, and the point price is over 5,000.

For 3 people, round trip from BWI in Feb on weekday flights, I am finding roughly 33,000 points are needed to cover the flights.

Oops, sorry, typo, that should have been 7500 points, not 750. Sorry

Been watching MCO to MKE on a Tuesday in February. Initial price was $138, not in the budget to purchase so I wait. Fare went up to $198 and today is showing sold out. :scared1: My suspicion is it will be available again at some point. I feel pretty strong about this, as I watch daily and have seen it happen. I think they want people to book/fill the other flights.

Last year we flew with a group of highschool students-they were down in Orlando for some "gifted and talented" convention. I am betting it is the same school that booked that time slot.

That same time slot is sold out on Wednesday, as well. I booked a later fight, it was $121. If the other opens up, I can change it. I'll be the last person of the group left. Me, myself and I with an AP in my hand equals more time at Disney.:thumbsup2
