For you New Jerseyans who have been curious about Southwest Arilines, but didn't want to make the drive to PHL.

Given SWA's track record at setting-up shop in new places, I wouldn't be surprised if they have a non-stop or two to MCO (or, at the very least, one-stop service).

I would also expect the post-merger United (current Continental) to get into a fare war, which is a win for the traveler.

SW sometimes walks away from fare wars. They eliminated non-stop service from Dulles to MCO rather than fare war with United. Same with Detroit and Northwest (now Delta).

I really don't expect a EWR to MCO nonstop from SW to start because between JetBlue and Continental there are about 8 flights daily each way, and they have decently competative fares. I think SW will start with locations that CO and/or JB don't service very well.

I am reviving this post I guess. Has anyone heard and "new" news on SWA flying from EWR to MCO? Like when will they begin to do this. I heard March but I am not sure. I went online to see the pricing and there was no direct flight to MCO, in fact the shortest trip would take us 8 hours to get to MCO!!!! and the price was not much cheaper than JB or CA. I lke the idea of not having to pay for luggage; but no way I'm going to take an entire day to fly there.

They'd have to beat Continental and Jet Blue by a LOT to get any passengers from EWR to MCO with those lengthy connections through Midway and STL. They're also connecting through BWI later in the year. Until they fly nonstop, they're a non-player on that route.
