Oops posted this under the budget board by mistake

As of last Friday ( why didn't they notify anyone) SWA will no longer allow you to apply unused funds, flight credits, ect to anyone other than the original ticket holder.

DH travels for business and we have always used his bump credits, lower fare credits, etc for any future flights (him or anyone that could use them)

Just got off the phone with customer relations. Had a very lengthy "discussion" and they will not make any exceptions.

If anyone does get an exception made, please let the rest of us know so that we can try again as well.

Guess I will be looking for a more fuel efficient vehicle because we will be driving alot more now!

Actually, that was supposed to go into effect January 28, 2011, but I believe SW had some system issues which is the only reason it wasn't implemented earlier. BUT, I am sorry you didn't know about it yet. :flower3:

As many sale emails as they send, I don't see why they couldn't have sent a heads up to everyone. I posted on the budget thread but I'm still ticked! Now I feel like we threw away $400 because we have no plans for the 5 of us to fly anywhere else before Jan. DH or I could have used that credit. Arrrgghhhh.

I pointed this out to the person this morning as well. You can spam me to death with all your offers, etc but you couldn't sent out one simple email????

What would the email have said... "Sorry, you can no longer exploit a loophole that should have been eliminated in January and for which you were given notice last year!"

The Contract of Carriage was updated on February 12, 2011. It explicitly states unused fare credit can only be used by the originally ticketed passenger. Every time you log on to Southwest.com you AGREE to their terms of service, into which the Contract of Carriage is incorporated. Like most corporations, those terms are subject to change without notice.

I never received a notice from them.

Unfortunately, the vast majority of the flying public has no idea what the CoC says. When they print out their flight info, with all pertinant info there, they ignore it. No one ever reads that 'fine print'...they should though. It gives a lot of really good info. People would find out that they have made an awful lot of assumptions when buying airfare.

Even *I* don't read the fine print at times... and when I don't I only have myself to blame.

with all the info on these boards I'm supprised anyone could miss this information from last yr.:goodvibes

Well, my DH spoke to an actual Southwest employee about this a couple of weeks ago and was told the credits could be used by anyone. We had gotten a credit on my MIL's flight and we're pretty sure she won't be flying again within a year.

So there is still misinformation out there.

This was posted last July:

If you have a copy of your confirmation, I would check it to see if the wording is there.

I have never flown SW, but I did know about this rule change simply by visiting this board. It was all over here when it was announced.....

It's always a bummer when you miss something.......

That was my complaint. Yes, I knew about the coming change but also info from this board & the actual rep that DH spent 1/2 hr waiting to talk to, told us that the change was on hold "indefinitely". I don't agree w/calling it "exploiting a loophole" but I am over it and hopefully we will use the credits to fly home for the holidays.

I was able to use 'my' credits to rebook a different flight for DH on Monday:confused3

note that i 'apparently being exploitative by nature':laughing:also was able to book series of small credits into dummy reservations, cancel & then rebook the final one without issue.

perhaps i slipped thru the crackpopcorn::

OP call back again & ask to speak to a supervisor

Today I wanted to rebook our four flights from regular fares to Ding fares which were $20 cheaper.

I had to rebook each person individually though, because I kept getting an error message when I tried to do them together. What a pain that was, and the fact that we now have 4 confirmation numbers....:sad2:

Finally got it rebooked, but also messed up and had to take an earlier flight because in my rush to save $80 I missed the fact that the 3pm flight wasn't available. Sooooo stupid!!!! ;)

A couple weeks ago they hadn't updated their website to actually act in the way it was stated on the site. (In Feb or March I was booking and it stated clearly as I was going through the process that funds could only be used by the named person, but that's not how it actually worked...the wording was there but the site hadn't caught up)

I don't know what I'm going to do with these credits ($202) we have spread out over the 4 of us? My DD and I thought about a future short trip, but it is the guys who have the bulk of the money. It really bugs me to throw the money away. And I hate that the credits can't be used for EBCI either. :headache:

Southwest also told me a week ago, that other people other than the names on the credit could use them. I guess they were wrong.

I did notice that my credit card statement had each passenger listed separately even though I had us all on one reservation on the way to Fl, and it was broken int o two reservations on the way home. At first I thought I somehow made 8 individual reservations.

Looks like a guys short trip is in order! :cool1:

I heard about this last year through the boards. I just wish they would at least let the same surname use the credits.:headache: Once you book there is no use to look for the lower rates or dings now. Maybe that's why they are doing this.
