Southwest Airlines Credit Card Offer

Husband and I both applied for cards. Made our 1st purchase and points were put into our accounts about a month later. $69 annual fee charge 1st statement.

Booked our flights last night! Easy, no problems! So we are flying to Disney for $180 for 4 rounds trip tickets! (2 annual fees and $40 in security fees each flight) We signed up under a 50,000 pts deal

I dont think they ever expire and yes you could book just one flight

1. You can book a flight for anyone using your points. You don't even have to be going on the trip.

2. Southwest points currently do not expire. Just keep up with the program to make sure they don't change that in the future.

They expire after 2 years of inactivity on the account.

What would inactivity mean? Not using the credit card? I would probably cancel the card after making my first purchase just so I don't have another card floating around. Maybe not, though; if I've paid $69 for the card, I might as well use it.

The inactivity is in the award program. There are many ways to have activity, the easiest is to fly. But any way you earn or even spend points is an activity that will keep your awards account active.


I believe if you look back you will find an application that will still give you 50000 points

Thanks for this thread! Just signed up. Now we can save some money on flights for the cruise we are about to book! I do have a question on the Airtran/SW combination. We only have Airtran in Grand Rapids (for now), and I was wondering how many A+ rewards it takes to earn a flight? We have never used any flight rewards.

DH and I both just applied and were approved last night. So between us, we will have 100,000 points.

I will now use this instead of Amex for gas and groceries, etc. to rack up more points. Planning to use it to fly five of us to Disney again next April!

I NEVER do credit card offers, but this was too good to pass up. Between both cards, we get at least four flights. Only have to pay the $69 fee on each and $10 security fee. So for five of us, we can fly rt for like $190!

I got the same email from both airlines. The problem that I see with the conversion is that it takes 16 A+ Rewards credits to get a round trip ticket. That would be the equivalent of 19,200 SWA RR points, which is the same as $3200 in Wanna Get Away fares.

It's not a very generous conversion. Plus once done, it cannot be undone. I can understand doing it if SWA doesn't fly out of your airport or if they have lousy times. I've noticed that the number of nonstops from PHL have been reduced significantly while Airtran has better return flight times. I may end up converting for one-way fares on Airtran just so I can get a later nonstop return flight in the fall.

this is a great deal...but some pp's are planning to get the points,then cancel...it *could* work,but it will hit your credit more if you do that.
You can't avoid the annual fee upfront, it's an awesome deal for travel,I too use this card exclusively now-
there are all kinds of perks...companion passes,etc etc- check the RR site in your account and see the lists of other things you can use those points for also.... it is the best card I've seen lately and well worth the annual fee.

I mean, I went to price out in points the cost of three round trip tickets, and honestly, I came up with enough points with the bonus. Is that good, or can they only be redeemed for two flights? You will get points, not RT vouchers. It is possible that the points will be more than enough to cover 2 RT flights if their price is low enough.

Yes, both spouses can apply for cards in their own names. Each would get the corresponding number of points deposited into their own RR account. The total points would not go into a single RR account.

We each got 50k in points for $69 each. TOTALLY worth it. We've booked 7 roundtrip tickets so far and still have over 25k of points left. If you are wondering how, SW will also allow you to rebook your flight at a lower 'price' if it comes available. So as we booked our tickets, some of the costs lowered (for instance, instead of 12k per ticket, it went down to 10k). I rebooked at the lower prices everytime that happened and they just deposited the points back to my account (the 2k) IMMEDIATELY. I fly SW all the time and their change rules are the BEST!!!

Just signed up. Wife got a card a few months back and we used the points for 3 free flights for our WDW trip in July (with points to spare). Can't wait to get my points. We love flying SW so this was the biggest no brainer!

Even with the $99 fee, there's still an annual bonus of points that's almost equivalent to the fee. So it does pay for itself each year.

Points don't expire if you do a transaction with partner every 2 years, right? So does that mean as long as you charge on your SW CC it will never expire??

Charge it with a partners, participating hotels, car rentals, flights, and few other various things. Not just every day purchases for gas and groceries.

So in converting them to Air Tran, which as pointed out, isnt' the best deal, but how would you do this? I see nothing on either SW or Airtran's websites about doing it. SW doesn't fly out of Grand Rapids, and we don't want to drive to Detroit the night before our cruise. So, have to figure out how to do this once I get all our rapid rewards from the credit card.
