didn't help me - might help you
Nothing to TPA or MCO from BWI. We were hopeful too. The lowest fares posted were usually 6 am or 9 pm ish.
172.00 from BWI. Last year, same time $119.00. Maybe there will be another sale.I'm hoping.
You'll also get to choose your seats in advance, which is a big improvement over SWA. And if your flight plan is cancelled last-minute due to weather, AA's networking capacity will typically get you on a replacement flight quicker than SWA. Just be sure to check your account occasionally to see if there were any schedule or seating changes on your flight. AA doesn't consistently notify customers about those. You can call in to get the seating rearranged, or the flight changed/cancelled with no penalty if a significant schedule change doesn't work for you.My outbound trip was a whopping $9 off. Didn't even book our return flight as they are too high. My family says that's fine bc they want to live in SoCal anyway.
Seriously though, I applied for an American Airlines cc. If that goes through and I get my bonus points, we might be flying home on American as their flights from SNA are much less than SW is right now. With the cc myself and family traveling with me gets free checked bag and AA now allows free carry on.

Carry-on bag, no charge. Check-in bag has a charge. Avoid their no-frills "Basic Economy" tickets, btw. Their regular Economy tickets are fine.I haven't flown non-SWA domestic in years - does AA charge for luggage?

American can put you on a Delta or United flight if needed, whereas SWA can only reschedule you on another SWA flight. So yes, a legacy airline such as American is more reliable in the event of a severely disrupted flight than SWA.Southwest has 2x the number of incoming flights to MCO compared to any other airline including AA.
This information is out of the government tracking of all airline flights domestically. BTS.gov and Transportation.gov
Fly what is cheaper but I don't agree AA is going to get you a quicker flight as SWA has more flights in to MCO. There could be specific origination airports where it might be the case but its not true as a broad statement.

Accommodating "distressed passengers" (passengers whose flights were cancelled or delayed for 5 hours or more) with a flight on a rival legacy airline is standard practice for each of the legacy airlines (American, Delta, United). It is a service that sets them apart from "budget" carriers like SWA & Jet Blue. That is something frequent fliers know, and it is a major reason why frequent fliers are more likely to fly on a legacy airline instead of SWA.I have literally never heard of AA ever getting a normal passenger on another airlines flight. Not to mention if you have 100+ people on a flight the chances they all get put on a non-affiliated flight.... Sorry I just 1,000,000% do not buy it.
Not to mention in March as an example Southwest had 4000 of 13,000 flights in to MCO.
Been on AA and its every man/woman for themselves. Luckily the last time I was cancelled because of weather I proactively changed flights before they formally cancelled the flight and got the very last seat. Hell they wouldn't even talk to me and put me on standby because I didn't have status.
To be clear I fly at least every other week. At this point I typically stick with Southwest whenever possible because of all the issues I had with United, American, and Air Canada.
Do what you want but selling me on AA cancelling a flight and having them put me and my family on Unite is laughable.
