Southern CA City Pass transportation?

I'm so confused. We are taking a somewhat spontaneous trip to Disneyland with me (female mother of 2), my mother (grandma), and my two grils (ages 8 and 4) in May.

We are purchasing the Southern CA City Pass. SO excited about everything we get to see. I'm curious what others who have and plan to dour this pass have done for transportation. The obvious ofcouse seems to be to rent a car which I am leaning toward. However, the thought of driving my two precious girls and mother in Las Angeles scares me. We are flying into San Diego, staying in San Diego for 2-3 nights then staying at Disnyland for 4-5 nights.

I'd love to hear how others did it or suggestions if anyone has them. Thanks!

You may have to drive your two precious girls. That
pass includes Universal Studios Hollywood which is
35 miles from DLR and SeaWorld which is 91 miles
from DLR - in the other direction.

So you'll start in SeaWorld, right? The head to DLR
and from there make the trip to Universal. I'm assuming.

How were you planning on getting from San Diego to
Disneyland? If not a car rental?

My suggestion for the DLR to USH trip would be to
contact your DLR hotel and find out about the Universal
shuttles they might offer.

Bus and train are an option for all legs. But can get
complicated and very long when traveling over 100 miles.

Amtrak goes from San Diego to Anaheim and then city
bus to DLR.
Amtrak goes from Anaheim to Los Angeles and then the
subway to Universal. So it IS possible.

I agree you will have to get a car. There is absolutely no real public transporation outlets in Southern Cali. It is possible but its a real nightmare. Your better off going on hotwire or priceline and getting a car. Traveling down there can really ruin a vacation so better to be prepared.

I did San Diego and Los Angeles with the CityPass book in 2005 with a rented car. I found the driving to be easy and not scary at all. Actually I enjoyed the drive between SD and LA - very scenic.

I was considering renting a car in for our first three nights in San Diego. Then taking the train to Anaheim (seems pretty). There is also a train to Los Angeles for Universal. I have heard that the subway can be unsafe though? Is that true? Does it seem more simple to just rent a car the entire time? The girls have never ridden a "real" train before and think that would be fun.
