Southern Baptists Boycotting Public Schools!

The Southern Baptist Convention is considering Boycotting public schools.

At last! Someone has finally found a way to improve the public schools!

What if we meld church and state, then over time our country becomes Muslim majority? Would those Southern Baptists be okay with their great grandaughters having to wear burkas?

point #1 I went to public school way back in the 60'2 and 70's. They never ever taught any type of religion in school and they don't teach any now. which also covers #2. They can't even sing Christmas carols in school that might be remotely considered Catholic. ( but they can sing about Chanuka sp? and Kwanzaa) The schools are trying to be way too PC right now. I think it is nice if they learn about the others cultures, but not the religion aspects.

#3 I'm sorry, but I don't get the whole point of it. Maybe I am missing something in my reading of it. I'm not being mean but it isn't making sense to me. Could be that it is after midnight and I have been up since 6 am!

Don't get too excited. It'll never happen!

As a SB, the peopel I know around here are too cheap to spend the $ on private school. If it were free, they'd all be there. I've had my DD in private Christian school for 5 years. My greatest critics are those I go to church with on Sunday mornings.

It is a resolution only. It'll never pass. It is crazy. The reason boycotting WDW passed is because no one had to spend $ and enery on boycotting a theme park. But to homeschool or private school, one would have to dish out money or prepare to teach.
Not gonna happen.

And shouldn't happen IMO. Ticked me off when I read it.

I have been trying to figure out the differences btwn the many different Christian denominations. Since this came up here.....what is the difference btwn Baptist and Shouthern Baptist?

There a lot of different kinds of Baptists.

Basically, Southern Baptists have the Southern Baptist Convention. Each church gives $ to the association. One of the things that sets it apart is how it does Missions. Southern Baptists churches are big believers in taking seriously Matt. 28's command.

Well, they voted it down.

I guess it's back to the drawing board for plans to improve our schools. Maybe the gang members parents will decide to home school.

I think it's ridiculous and will probably go over as well as their attempt to boycott Disney several years ago. If you remember they wanted members to stay away from any store that sold anything Disney which is pretty much impossible given all the character products (cinderella toothbrushes, pooh cereal, mickey/minnie diapers).

This was exactly the point - to separate ourselves. Although I too thought the resolution was taking things a bit far. Anyway, my take on the resolution was that we, as parents, not the government, are responsible for educating our children. The idea of the resolution was not to put religion into the schools, but that kids were being taught things contrary to their beliefs there, and that's the rationale for taking them out - so they don't get exposed to such things.

Ironically, I've had dd7 in private Christian school for 2 years, but will be moving her to public school this fall. So I wouldn't be following the resolution even if it had passed. I follow (or try to) God's will - and He is the One who led us to change schools. I read a wonderful article about Christian education comparing the choices of public, private, and home schooling and the article concluded that each was the perfect choice for some children, but none of them were the perfect choice for ALL children. As parents, we must decide what's best for our child. For dd7, it was private school for preschool, 1st and 2nd grade. Now it's public school although dd5 will stay in private school. (although that will be very inconvenient for me - it's best for each of them). We will have to wait and see whether we move dd5 to public school for 1st grade or not in '05. It's up to God
