Can anyone who has been on the ABD south Africa trip tell me how many safaris they actually went on, and was the trip itself really worth it.... Thanks

I went on the Safari to South Africa trip in 2012 and it was amazing! While at Kapama we had a morning and evening safari daily.

The safari's were great. My parents spent a huge amount of money a year before and travelled up in the Kruger park on safari. Comparing notes, we all agreed we had the better experience.

We went in 2011, on a longer version of this trip that isn't available anymore, but here is my postings when we came back. I never have gotten around to the trip report, because some of the places and things we did are not in the current trip. Almost everything in the current trip was, however, in ours. I recommend this trip without reservation. Indeed, one of the local guides, Craig Z, still keeps in regular touch with us. There are some good trip reports on the disboards which I recommend you read. Great Great trip.

Morning and evening safari each day while at Kapama.

Are you going to South Africa for the safari experience or for everything (safari, Cape Town, Garden Route, District 6 Museum, etc.). If you're just going for the safari, you could do a lot better in east Africa (Kenya and Tanzania). In the Serengeti you might see the Great Migration (two million wildebeest and zebra moving between Tanzania and Kenya in search of water and the predators that follow them) or you might see one of the few remaining black rhino in Ngorogoro Crater (it's been a few years and I hope there are still a few of them remaining).

In comparison, Kapama is a private reserve with far, far fewer animals. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed Kapama, but it felt more like an extended attraction than really being out in the bush. If you're going to Africa for the other experiences as well, I'd say ABD does a wonderful job and is worth every penny.

My daughter and I went in 2011 and loved, loved, loved the trip. I highly recommend it.
