Does anyone have first hand experience bringing a sound machine on board? Was it confiscated? If not, where did it plug in?

I am interested in getting the Marpac Dohm White Noise Sound Machine to help drown out my husbands snoring, for the family. I honestly am terrified that the kids won’t be able to sleep through it. Heck, I have ear plugs in right now and can’t sleep!!!

Anyway...

I need a better option than an app on my phone that plays sounds...

A sound machine shouldn’t be any problem. It doesn’t have any real danger of starting a fire like most prohibited items. There are a few regular 110V US outlets in every room.

We’ve used a noise machine several times. No different than any other electronic device. It’s not like it’s a curling iron or anything else that generates heat and could catch fire.

My daughter brought her Marpac Dohm White Noise Sound Machine on our Wonder trip last month. We had no problem using it.

If you have a smart phone or iPad, there are some great white noise apps you can get! That way you won’t have to buy and haul another item to the ship—you’ve already got it on your device! We just plug in an iPad at night, turn on the noise app, and sleep like babies.

ETA: I just saw that you don’t like the phone apps. Maybe the iPad has a better speaker?

We always bring our sound machine. I carry it onboard in my day bag so if there are any questions about it I'm happy to answer. The security at the X-ray machine has known exactly what it is and I've had zero problems.

I have the Dohm and have used it on the Dream, no problem. Have you considered booking two connecting rooms and isolating your husband in one room and yourself and the kids in the other? (Fellow wife of a horrible snorer here and that’s what we do!)

Wondering if he's tried a C-PAP?

The C-Pap was a literal life saver for us. During a wisdom tooth extraction, while he was under, the Dr. noticed my husband's snoring and breathing stops....he pulled me aside (husband was too groggy) and told me to make sure he gets a sleep study immediately. Yep, my husband was a prime candidate for the C-Pap machine. He uses it at home and we bring it on our cruises now and we both sleep great. DCL provides the distilled water and an extension cord. Picked up both at guest services.

I think I would go to the source and politely request DH go see a doctor/surgeon to address the snoring. I the interim, the sound machine will not be a problem onboard. Enjoy your cruise!

Our girls always fall asleep to music or a sound machine, which works out great for us when we travel because they fall asleep fast. (Think Pavlov) They all have the music/white noise on their iPods and then we will already have our beach speaker for music at Castaway Cay, so it will just have double duty.

Glad you asked this question! We have, and it wasn't confiscated or inspected at all (was in my carry-on). Then later on I read a thread talking about all the unwelcome electronic devices and started to question whether I had broken a rule!

We have the same sound machine (Marpac Dohm) and we took it with us on our cruise on the Fantasy. We had no issues and I honestly didn't anticipate any or even consider that there would be. At that point my youngest still napped and went to bed very early so we needed to block out any noise the rest of us made. We take it with us whenever we travel.

Possibly, but in the past our iPad charging cord (non-generic) had gotten very hot overnight to the point it turned brown at the end. So, I assumed it was from running an app all night?

The speaker wasn’t quite loud enough for me back then... but we just got the new iPad.

We have 2 rooms, problem is that my MIL and FIL are in the connecting room and she is a worse snorer than my husband. With 3 kids in tow, there’s no real way to move people around to ensure sleep and keep me and FIL comfortable as well. o_O

I wish I Wish I wish!!!!
My MIL needs one as well, I know it. He insists that he just needs to lose weight, but if it were that easy he would have done it already...

He won’t get a sleep study, I’ve already tried to talk him and even recorded his snoring. I may email his Dr. We have an appt on Thursday, maybe he can talk him into it??

Thanks for all the help and advice!!

Could you make him sleep out in the balcony? (Only half kidding!)

I would DEFINITELY bring up your concerns with the doctor.

Speaking as a guy formerly diagnosed with sleep apnea, I would also strongly suggest he go consult a specialist. I used to actually stop breathing at night between violent snoring fits - my then-fiancée-now-DW was barely able to sleep even with earplugs. After my study, I was recommended to do a CPAP, but instead elected to have a tonsillectomy to open up the airways. Between that and some hardcore weight loss I'm now snore-free, and my wife is muuuuuch happier (and occasionally wakes up wondering if I'm even in the bed!). I can only imagine my DD sleeps soundly as such too.

That said, it's not for everyone, but no one has to just live with disruptive snoring IMO. I do hope that the partition between our cabins is sufficient in case our neighbors are so affected?
