SOTMK Newbie tips?

DS 9 picked up some SOTMK cards at MVMCP last year. We only had one MK day plus party so did not have time to play after SOTMK training. We have a longer trip coming up in Nov and I promised him we would take time to play. Approx how long will this take? Best time of day? Would extra magic hours be a good time? Currently we have 2 days planned at MK plus MNSSHP and we can hop in the evenings other nights during our trip. Any tips for first timers appreciated! TIA

This is a great filler activity during the day, particularly in the afternoons when ride lines are long. I would NOT waste EMH on SOMK, and I don't even know if the portals run then, honestly. It takes as much time as you want it to...you can play as little or as much as you want. It was addicting for my family...they love the cards and love defeating villains. On the first level (Easy) there's really no strategy to the game play; that doesn't become important until you reach the other levels, and unless you decided hours upon hours to it, you likely won't get past the first level in one trip. The longest we've ever waited in line for a portal is behind two other groups. This is why it's a good afternoon activity. I tell my kids no SOMK until after 11:00 when crowds pick up and lines start to be an issue.

The back room of Tortuga Tavern (where there's one portal) is a popular location for card trading, so that gives you a chance to trade your duplicates if you feel like doing that.
