This has really never happened to me but within a 2 day period from around 12/20 I had bought a pricey item (Emeril cookware from HSN for my MIL) & DH for me - surprise - Dooney wallet & purse. Well we were both tracking our packages through UPS & when I got home no package & the next day same thing for DH. He finally told me about my "surprise":lovestruc Well I called HSN & they sent it UPS but no signature required & so did Dooney. I still do not understand how they can send such pricey items without signature required ? So UPS just left the packages outside by the front door. Of course I called both retailer, HSN was awesome & immediately refunded my money but Dooney was a little harder & wanted to conduct an investigation which was fine but wouldn't give me a time frame (so I filed a claim through BOA) & got our $ back & then went out & replaced our gifts.

But it's really scary that this would happen. Well today the UPS guy comes to the house with a paper for me to sign that I did not receive the packages, I read it & signed it. But he was really churlish about it, made me feel like I stole something. I politely told him sorry but I came home from work & there was no package on my doorstep. End of conversation. I would feel bad if he was penalized at work but really I was out 2 very expensive items which I do not have the funds to replace. He just made me feel weird. I am very leery now of shopping on the internet but to be honest this has really never happened before to us but we did just move into this neighborhood a few months ago but we know all the neighbors. They are all nice families, I just can't see any of them taking them. Oh well.. just venting to my fellow disers :headache:

I will never understand why they leave the packages unattended like that, especially during the holidays and in this economy. I'm glad you were able to get your money back!

The same thing happened to me. I had ordered some pajamas that cost a total of 40 dollars for my boys last Christmas. When they told me the shipping time frame, I realized that we would be in Disney so I cancelled the order. Well I thought that was the end of it until this summer I started getting phone calls from UPS. I explained the same to them. The driver shows up with a paper for me to sign which I did. I thought that would be the end. But no, Ups continued to call and said that they had to file a police report and that from now on they would not leave any packages at my house unless I was home to sign for them. It is very inconvenient and they really made me feel like some type of criminal. I don't know who I would speak to about it. I'm happy you were able to resolve your situation.

I did have this happen to me.....

I ordered a hard drive for my PC and had it shipped to my house...

When it never showed up and said it was delivered I called the company and they said they shipped it...they had my Apartment number.... so then I called UPS and they said they left it under a bush ( I am on the second floor!!!)... so I was MAD..... but they did not have my Apartment number so where the heck did they leave it.... SO then I find out that the company was refunded the money from UPS and that they were supposed to refund me and never did.... well I could never get anyone to admit they got a refund..... so it was a he said she said situation....

So lesson learned and I will never have anything shipped to my condo again.....

I once had UPS deliver a very large package that we didn't receive. They said it had been delivered, no if ands or buts. I contacted the company I'd originally ordered from and they sent out a replacement with no hassle. Weeks later (after the 2nd package had arrived), UPS left the 1st package on my doorstep. Yeah, it'd had obviously been delivered just like they said weeks earlier. :confused3

DH just reminded me another instance, they left our Ipods sitting on the doorstep even though signatures were required. No explanation on that when we called to inquire, not even an 'I'm sorry'.

He shouldn't be penalized, he was following the directions of the vendor who shipped the packages to you. The problem is that UPS now has to reimburse the vendors for the packages, that's why he was churlish I'm sure. Sorry that you didn't get your packages but this is why companies (including mine) ship with UPS and Fed Ex, so the shipments are insured. :)

My hubby's cousin works as a driver for UPS. She said they can actually take a picture with a satellite of the item being delivered to your door. But they don't know what happens to it once they leave it though. She said they had to start doing that because so many people were saying they didn't get their packages. I would rather them leave my package than me have to chase it down. I've never had a problem. Good Luck getting your packages. :goodvibes

The same thing happened to me recently! We live in a super safe town where there is zero crime and people leave their doors unlocked. I tracked my package online and it said it was left at my front door at about 90 minutes before I got home from work. Well, no way was it stolen from there in that short amount of time. I am still in the process of getting reimbursed and it's almost a month later. :headache:

I had that happen right before Christmas too! I ordered Butterscotch Furreal Pony from Amazon..... it shipped in its original box via FedEx without a signature required. Fedex showed it delivered around lunch time and when I got home at 6 o'clock it was not on my porch. I have recieved neighbors packages before, so that may have been what happened (but they never said a word), but I figure someone stole it. They could see from the big picture on the side of the box exactly what it was. Luckily Amazon sent a replacement in time for Christmas, but I was shocked it was still just left on the porch with no signature required and the picture on the box facing the street.

We had a package that UPS said was delivered but it wasn't on our porch when we got home. Went round and round with UPS. The original retailer was great and shipped us out a new item (a pair of shoes). 3 weeks later, UPS shows up with our 1st package. Evidently, they delivered it to the wrong address! The person that lived there was kind enough to return it.

We had UPS drop our pkg off at a simular address accross town - they told us it would take several weeks to fix the problem? We drove over to the other address and picked it up 30 minutes later.

Ha! This is funny, well, more ironic than funny, that I see this thread tonight. I have been waiting for my 400.00 worth of Universal Studios tickets to come via UPS. They were supposed to be here yesterday but with our weather, no surprise, no tickets. I have been tracking them all day. I got home from work about 3pm and checked to see if they had been delivered, nope. Good. Well, I just checked 20 minutes ago, at 7:30 and they had been delivered only 15 minutes before that. WE ARE ALL HOME! No one rang the doorbell nor knocked on the door. If I had not checked the tracking one more time tonight, I would have left them on the doorstep all night. They are safe and in the house now, but geesh. :headache:

We've had several deliveries from UPS recently where the driver didn't even ring the doorbell. My Mom is disabled and can't get to the door quickly. She heard the truck but the drivers were usually already back in the truck by the time she got to the door. Then the package was blocking the door so that she couldn't get the door opened, so the package had to sit there until I got home. There was one delivery that required a signature, I found the notice when I got home in the evening. Mom had been home all day and said the doorbell never rang. I set up a delivery time and they were still over an hour late!

We once received a large Princess House order for someone two blocks over (same house number, wrong street name) via UPS. I happened to know the person, so I drove over and brought it to her. She said there was over $450 worth of stuff in the box and was relieved that I brought it to her.

Our UPS driver does ring the bell, but is back in the truck very quickly. I think that they are timed as to the time between deliveries.

You're not a criminal. If numerous reports are gathered (the only way to do this is to interrogate people like you) about losses in a particular neighborhood, I would expect that UPS (or Fedex or DHL or whoever) will mark that neighborhood as extra risky and stop leaving packages at doorsteps.

I would expect that taking aerial photographs would be more useful for identifying drivers who fail to get signatures as opposed to proving you got the package.

"I'm sorry" isn't good enough. What counts is that the seller sends you another one (iPod, tickets, pajamas, television, purse, candy, etc.) or refunds your money.

>>> ... churlish ...
He may have had to pay for the item out of his pocket because he did not follow procedures like get a signature.

Some time (more than 10 years) ago I ordered some CD's and they were sent by ordinary snail mail. I ahd to sign for them and the clerk brought out a box that was torn open and some of the CD's were missing. I refused to sign. The seller dutifully sent a new shipment.

For anyone who gets smaller packages that go missing in the summer, check behind big foliage. For anyone who has smaller packages that go missing in the winter, check in the snow.

Working amazon CS I got so many follow-up phone calls, once snows had melted or bushes lost their blossoms as it got colder, and people found their must-have-been-stolen, LONG replaced, packages....

It's really not a good idea to do that. Unless you actually know the person, you don't know who is going to answer the door. Not a good idea to take packages to the right person if it's been misdelivered to you, either. Anyone hear that Halloween news story of the guy who shot his shotgun through the door when a boy went to trick or treat at his house? YOu just don't know who is going to answer and what kind of person they are...let the retailer take care of it, seriously.

This happened to me with DHL and mortgage papers. When I didn't receive them (they were overnighted) and DHL said that they delivered them, I was seriously freaking out. Turns out, DH and I were at work and it was raining, so they put it under my doormat. Yep, a ruined sloppy mess of papers! I was just so relieved that they didn't fall into somebody else's hands.

I once had a package state that it had been delivered and the kids and I had been sitting outside on the porch ALL DAY. No package. It was delivered later that night. I think sometimes the drivers state they've delivered a package when they haven't if they are behind and come back later when they have more time.

Two years ago, I ordered both kids nice coats on sale from TCP for Xmas in November. They sent them Fedex and they showed delivered but were not. I filed a claim and the fedex guy swore to them he put them on my porch in a cooler. I requested he come to my house and show me, I didn't have a cooler on my porch. As soon as he arrived, he said he delivered it two doors down, still no cooler on his porch either. He was a truck driver, so I had to wait a week to ask him if he'd gotten any packages for me. He didn't, so after 2 months I finally got my money and they would never resend the coats.
