Do you ever get emails from someone and they have in essence, dialed the wrong number?

Do you email them back and tell them they have reached the wrong person?

I jsut got one today telling me that my dance rehearsal for church starts today at 1pm and how exciting it will be that we'll be dancing for Jesus. I emailed back telling her she has the wrong person. She then responds to me asking me if I am out of my mind, it's so and so from church. I write back and tell her I am agnostic and I don't go to church.

But what stinks now is if anyone in that church group replies to all, I will be getting emails all week from these church members talking about their dance program.

This happened to me once before with a woman's church group.

I also get IM's from people. When I tell them I don't know who they are they start yelling at me that they sit by me in 2nd period math. Or whatever.

Although I do try and be careful that they aren't phishing. Most of the time it is an honest mistake.

It's spam, ignore it.

I read somewhere once that spammers will send stuff like that out to make sure they're getting a live e-mail account. I used to reply to e-mails like that until I read about the spam.

I think some is spam, and others aren't. Usually the spam ones don't list all of the emails. Or the emails will be in alphabetical order just being sent to people with the first letter of my name.

But when someone replies all and asks if they need to bring something to the rehearsal and the conversations continue for a while, it becomes obvious they have the wrong email name.

Yes, I"m on one woman's mass email list. I get all the updates about her son in Iraq and all her kids and every little thing. I have no clue who she is. I wrote her ages ago to say that I didn't know her and the emails stopped a while but now they are back. I just delete.

Off topic, LoraJ that siggie killed me. I kept staring at it trying to see if it really was winking and it reminded me of the tombstone outside of HM ;)

i have a very similar email to a woman names Lois.. i get TONS of email for her.. after a few years I finally found her and now i just forward stuff that isn't spam.. i was also added to some families annual reunion email list, and i emailed to all at once telling them they sounded like they had a great family and the reunion sounds like fun but there would be one person missing if they didn't get the correct email address... about 6 people emailed me back inviting me to come anyway!

There was a whole group of friends and family in NJ that had our email. All of the sudden we started getting emails with pictures of peoples new babies and invitations to parties etc in NJ. We kept emailing and telling them we don't know who they are. It turned out the people that were supposed to get the email have the same first names as DH and I. Our email address is DH'snamenmyname@whatever.com and there new email address DH'snameandmyname@whatever.com. Took people a while to figure out that we really didn't know them. We still get a monthly email from someone in that group telling us where all of his musical gigs are for the month. We gave up telling him he had the wrong address.
There is also an older couple that mistakenly has our email. They tell us every year when they are going to Florida for the winter and when they are coming home and they send us holiday pictures. We have told them repeatedly that we don't know who they are but the emails keep coming. Now we just answer them and tell them to have a safe trip or whatever. It was funny this year I actually got worried that something happened to them when we didn't get our email on Christmas Eve. They are fine the email came a few days later. :rolleyes2

Sometimes I will email back - if it's obvious that it's a "wrong number." And then I will block that email address.

I'm in a small email group and once one of our members missed a letter in my address, and since some do a reply to all, the other person started getting email that she must have thought was bizarre! And I was wondering why I was missing emails... eventually the other person emailed back and we fixed the problem, I think it only lasted a week.

My mom sent a few emails to that same person, I finally showed her how to use her address book instead of typing the address in, because she kept leaving out that same letter.

So this thread made me check my secondary email account where mail from "Fran" goes.

There were 7 messages from her including this one
I had your address spelled one way in my e-mail book here at work and
another way on the piece of paper you gave me in Illinois. Just
checking to see which one is right!

I have a feeling her real friend will respond and I'll stop getting her updates. I actually don't mind the forwards from her son in Iraq. I'm glad to know that he's ok.

I use to get email for a Realtor in AZ. Her kids played scoccer and I would get their updates, she was Jewish and I got holiday email cards, I got family newsletters and work related stuff. In the beginning I would always send it back to the sender and explain it was sent to me by mistake.

Finally I got tired of doing it and it stopped after awhile.

No, I don't, because it usually just leads to more confusion, as so many people have described above.

I love it when people write back "are you sure this is the wrong email?". Um, yes, I am quite sure of who I am, thank you.

Hey, they found you too? :bitelip: It's in South Africia, we just have to send some money to process the paperwork. :rotfl:

My email is Aprilgail and I was always getting email for ApriiGail....I finally emailed one and asked who the heck they were...they were asking about my new daughter and how she was etc and I had just had a daughter and couldn't figure out who they were...well then after we figured it out I would just forward all the emails I got for her over to her. Then one day I got an email from a transplant center for her regarding some type of transplant she needed....I sent it to her and then a few months later she no longer had an email address...I still think about her and hope she is ok!

::yes:: Me too!

I used to have an e-address that was very popular and wanted by many. So much so people would offer me money for it ... weird.

Anyhow, some high school kid from NY must have given my address as hers, and I would get exam results, changes to class time tables, as well as many e-mails from her friends. Amusingly one summer, her boyfriend broke up with me/her because I did not stay incontact with him. I was sad for about a minute.

I tried to tell the school etc etc that is was not the girls e-address, but nothing happened. Years on I still got more and more e-mails for the same person (it was like we shared the account). In the end I just abandoned the address.
