Hiya

I am not getting married until 2009. We decided this so we could give everyone we wanted to invite lots of notice and time to save up as we are coming over from UK.

We have started telling those we want to come about it mostly our immediate families.

I just wanted to ask a question however. My DF has a very close family friend who is a reverand and my DF would love him too perform the ceremony I had originally thought that would be ok as Disney allow you to use your own officiant, I have had this thought recently though.

Can a reverand perform a ceremony outwith their own country? If anyone knows I would really appreciate you help?

I would like to let him and his wife know as soon as possible.

Laura, you would have to double check, but I'm sure it's possible...

I knew of someone who had a DFTW and I'm *sure* the vicar was a relative from England - in fact, the whole wedding party was from England :teeth:

I'm not sure how it works with different countries...but I know here in the states, if the wedding officiant is to sign the marriage license he has to be somehow registered in the State of Florida to perform that ceremony.

I don't think it's all that big a hassle though 'cause I've heard of a few brides who have had family friends registered in other states become registered in Florida so they could perform their ceremony.

Personally, I would either ask your coordinator at Disney (since they could direct you to the local courthouse) or try contacting the Orange County Clerk of Courts to see what the steps would be.

Good luck and I hope you can make this work for you!

Thank you to everyone for your help and thanks for this link I think this passage I took from the link means I can I am not sure.

"Who may perform marriage ceremonies?
The following officials are authorized by Florida law to perform marriage ceremonies:

A regularly ordained minister or other ordained clergy;

Who is a "regularly ordained minister"?
A "regularly ordained minister" is a minister who has been recognized in the manner required by the regulations of his or her respective religious denomination to perform marriage ceremonies."

I havent called anyone from disney yet cause its so far out do you think they will mind me calling to ask questions this far in advance.

I don't think they'd mind - I think they'd appreciate you're coming from the UK and want to plan in advance so that your guests (and vicar!) know what's happening!

Good Luck! I'm sure it'll turn out positively!!

Thanks just realised your date is a wee while away yet to (unless thats a typo or I read it wrong), I will just ask the question everyone keeps asking me if you don't mind:

Why so far away?

you don't need to answer if you dont want I am just a bit nosey and its quite nice to see someone else with a date far in the future.

Confession, I just like looking at it in my signature!

A bit of a long story but - It's been my dream to get married at WDW and I absolutely love looking at other people's planning journals and planning the wedding in my head - as all girls do I suppose! I've been with my DBF now for 3 years and although we aren't engaged yet, we have talked about it. We were going to get engaged this year at WDW but decided to try and get a house next year instead, and realised that a short engagement (well 2 years) would suit us better instead of a 5 year one!

Plus, I am only 21 and am about to embark on a 4 year PhD, so we are aiming to get married in about 5 years time, when we'll be more stable money-wise and older really :) My DBF has always said he doesn't want to get married at WDW and he turned around to me at the weekend and said, he's changed his mind and thinks it's a wonderful idea (he wasn't drunk either ;))

Sorry for the long-winded answer! The line in my sig reminds me that one day we ARE getting married at the Happiest Place on Earth :teeth:

I'll just be nosy and immerse myself in your planning journal for now :teeth:

Sorry don't have one yet and by the time it comes around to my wedding I think everyone will know my plans better than me cause of all the questions I ask so I won't need to do one.

You sound quite like me it took me a while to get DF to agree but I just knew I wanted a DFTW, and part of the reason we are waiting a while is to save for a house too, well thats not quite true we just sold our flat and made a good profit but dont want to use all that money for the wedding so we are saving for wedding so we can keep that money for the next time we buy we are living in free accomodation just now cause of DF's work so making it quite good for saving. we are so lucky to be able to do it.
