We are planning a trip to California and Las Vegas in August I would appreciate any input and suggestions. Here is our plan(we were going to go to Disneyland for 3 days but decided to delay that until next years 60th anniversary):
Day 1: arrive at LAS at 10am(from Albany ny ) get rental car and drive to LA
Check in to Sheraton universal for the next 7nights
Day 2 paramount studios tour(we did this last yr and really enjoyed it)
Day 3: shopping at farmers market, the grove , and rodeo dr(baffled by this but that's what my sister and niece want lol)
Day 4: hiking at Runyon canyon clueless on what else.
Day 5: Hollywood walk and maybe tour of stars homes(didn't get to do this last time)
Day6:???
Day 7:????
Day 8 leave LA and head to vegas: check in to Vdara hotel we don't gamble so I thought this would be a nice place to stay....totally clueless about Vegas.
Day 9: a full day 4wheel tour of the Grand Canyon (the pink trucks?)
Day 10:?????
Day 11 flight home to ny.
Not sure of where to eat most days but do know we will have shrimp poboys at farmers market(had them last time and they were great) also lunch is included in paramount tour and we will definitely try in and out burgers.

Depending on your taste and budget I would recommend the following in LV.
Emeril's Fish House (MGM Grand) lunch or dinner (Also love his restaurants at the Venetian/Palazzo)
Spago (Café section, Forum shops) lunch or dinner
Mon Ami Gabi (Paris) lunch
Maybe some down time at the hotel pool and seeing the Bellagio water fountain show.Depending on the time of your flight out from LV maybe do a breakfast buffet at one of the hotels nearby that morning

What about a beach day on day 6 or 7. Or go to the beach on the Runyon Canyon day, you know, "mountains" (using that term loosely) and beach on the same day. It's an LA thing. What day of the week are days 6 & 7? Consider a 1 day Disney trip, so you'll have an idea what you want to do next year when the 60th crowds are in full swing and can better prioritize.

For Vegas, check the schedule for shows to see who's in town. As for standing shows, most Cirques are a good bet, and I personally still like Blue Man Group. And no one ever complains after Penn & Teller.

emerils restaurant sounds great,
Days 6 and 7 are a saturday and Sunday.
Unfortunately we cant go to Disneyland because that was where we were originally headed and when I said "lets skip Disney and go to the Grand Canyon" My sister and niece pretended to fall off their seats and made me repeat that sentence while they taped it

Note that it will be very hot there. Wear comfortable shoes. And even though things looks close they really are not that close. There is so much shopping. They now have the big ferris wheel. You can look it up on you tube. Drink plenty of water. Enjoy your time!

Hotel hopping in Vegas will take at least a full day.
