Can I take my resort refillable mug to the parks and ask for ice water at the concession stands? We get so tired of sodas and my daughter (9yrs) is saving the planet (her words) and refuses to let us use plastic water bottles. Using our resort mugs seemed like a 'green' solution. :thumbsup2

Thanks!

I don't see why not. Since they give out ice water for free in large paper cups I am sure there won't be a problem with them filling your resort cup. :thumbsup2

They will not take your mug back into a food service area to fill it with water. This is not permitted for sanitary reasons. You can ask for a cup of ice water and then pour it into your mug but then you will have to get rid of the cup, and that may not fly with your "green" kid.

At CS where there is a do-it-yourself refillable beverage station, you may be able to fill the mug with water at the station IF you choose only water. There's at least one CS with this type of drink station in every park except Magic Kingdom (was not able to locate one inside MK)

I think you have to ask for a cup of ice water - they won't fill your mug for you. I spoke with a person atWDW in April & he was told they wouldn't fill the mug because it was against the Board of Health's rules. I hope someone else can clarify it for you.

Thank you for the replies. I think we'll give it a try. Even if we have to just get ice and use a water fountain or pour from another cup, it will be nice to have the insulated mugs that slide closed on top.

Thanks again! :worship:

A refillable resort mug is a PLASTIC container that is bulky and will be awkward on rides. A water bottle is a refillable plastic container that hooks more conveniently on a lanyard for carrying all day. A water bottle does not need to be thrown away after one use. Or you can purchase at home and bring with you her choice of a more sturdy, washable, but easier to transport refillable drink container.

You do not want to be carrying yours AND hers by noontime. ;)

And no matter which container she uses, she will also generate additional trash with each drink because for sanitary reasons they must give it to you in a clean cup.

I would agree. Plus the resort mugs are probably going to leak if you put them in your bag. Unless you want to drink from the fountains (bleh) I think you are better with water bottles. We don't use bottled water 51 weeks of the year but when we are at Disney we buy it at Publix and take it to the parks. IMHO, saving the planet is all about reducing. You do your best. Sometimes you compromise.

My family & I now bring our own reusable 1-liter water bottles and refill them at the water fountains at the parks, then add flavored Propel powder packets to them so the water doesn't have the "fountain" taste (only an issue with the wife & kids, not me). I like this because it saves a lot of money as opposed to buying water or soda bottles at the parks, and also because I don't have to worry about the negative health effects to males that are associated with plastic bottles. My tree hugging wife & daughter like it since they are doing their part to "save the planet". I like the Sigg brand bottles since they NEVER leak, even though they can run as much as $25 per. My son prefers a Camelbak bottle since it has a straw attachment, and also doesn't leak. We each carry our own bottles in our own bag or water bottle carrier, so weight isn't an issue. Maxpedition makes a great durable water bottle carrier with an attached pocket that my kids like.
