Sorry! Charley

DM,
I'm so sorry you had to go through all this. I really don't even know what to say except you should know that our thoughts are with you and your family during this difficult time. I hope you'll be able to get your home back in order in the shortest amount of time possible but I would assume that getting a contractor to work on your home right now will be difficult as they must all be inundated with repair requests from all over the area.

Good luck to you and most importantly I'm glad you and yours are physically OK.

DM - sounds like you you had a frightening time!:scared1: Glad to hear you and your family made it thru safely - just wish your house could have too!

You all sould like prime candidates for the FEMA people - are they blanketing your area with information like they are in our area?

We had some bad rain and flooding here about a month ago. FEMA was wonderful, but they couldn't help me. Apparently our home insurance disqualified us.

They were pleasent enough to deal with though.

I'm so sorry to hear about your house and all you have been through. You are in my thoughts and prayers all the time.

Motherfletcher- I could use a little humor and I'm sure knowing what everyone has been through so could they.

Yes, they are. The insurance rep will be checking out the house tomorrow.

DM so glad you are OK. Your house got some pretty bad damage & considering you are "inland" and I am not, your damage is worse than mine. Hope it all gets fixed soon for you. I still cannot believe the damage this storm has done in so many of our counties. This just goes to show, a hurricane threat cannot be taken lightly by anyone. One would have never thought that the Orlando area would get 100 mile an hour winds. I am glad I didn't evacuate. When the news came over saying it was headed towards me, it was too late to leave. They said we would get cought in it. I had acutally thought that if I left my area (Lee Cty) and headed inland towards Arcadia & went up US17 to US 27 to I-4, I would have made it... now I see that I never would have.... that is the path it took! I am just so thankful that we are all ok... property can be replaced, we cannot. Our counties have a long haul ahead of them to get back to full functioning counties. Lee County's tourist season starts up in the fall (just around Thanksgiving) & they are already saying that we will not be ready for that. We have some schools that are totally damaged on the barrier islands ...they don't know where the kids can go. As of now, we are out of school until at least Monday the 23rd. I know there are many counties that haven't gone back yet. We all just need to take one day at a time (if we have the electric to see the time LOL) and rebuild our lives.

A little off topic but not sure how many of you remember my post about my husband loosing his job of 17 years with a large newspaper company (back in April)... well anyway. He finially got a job about a month ago paying 1/4 of what he was earning, it isn't enough for us to survive on but better than nothing. To make a long story short, he was interviewed by the newspaper in Port Charlotte for a Pressroom Manager position. He basically got the job, he went for the Drug Screen on Thrusday. Thursday night I said as a joke, watch...the hurricane will hit here instead of Tampa...and sure enough it did.... now all of his paperwork is lost. He heard from them yesterday to assure him that he still has the job, but they aren't sure when he can start... just yesterday they printed their first paper since the storm hit. It figures that happened with my husbands luck.. I cannot wait for the year 2004 to end. I am looking forward to a new & better year in 2005! Don't get me wrong on this portion of the post, I feel very bad for all of those in Punta Gorda & Port Charlotte that have lost everything... I am just trying to see some humor in our situation becasue without it, you just want to cry!

Yippee .... Yippee .... Yippee... the news paper just called as I was typing this... he starts tomorrow am!!!! Things are looking up already..... maybe I do want 2004 to stick around a while longer.....:wave2: :bounce:

A Mickey Fan - oh joy for you and yours!:Pinkbounc :bounce:

The new job thing has got to be taking a load off of both of your minds! Hope the commute is not too traumatic for him.

It is wonderful to hear some good news in the midst of all of this - so pass him my congratulations!

Thats great that he got a job. Are ya'll moving up there?

DM-
I do hope the weather holds until you can make the appropriate repairs. I've seen the afternoon rains add insult to injury. You are fortunate to have homeowner's insurance. Are they understanding at USO?

Hiya DM......so sorry to read that. I remember you saying you were filling up the water bottles - but for some reason - I thought you lived near the theme parks so assumed you would be okay. The stories I have read on the net are very frightening. I am glad you are and your family are safe.

Motherfletcher...no we aren't going to move up there. The commute will only be 30 minutes from where we are at now. We are origninally from NY & there he had to commute 45-60 minutes. Living here since 1991 he did get spoiled with a 15 minute commute, but 30 isn't bad. He will be working nights so there isn't any commuter traffic for him to deal with. Actually, where our house is at in Cape Coral all he has to do is go up Burnt Store Rd (not sure if you have heard of it) & he ends up on 41 in Punta Gorda. He will have to drive thru downtown Punta Gorda & then over the bridge & he is there.

cc1954....thanks for the congrats, I will pass it along to him... he is happy & releaved to have gotten it. We were wondering how we were going to make it on the salary from the other place. Now all we have to do is wait for the health insurance to kick in & we will be A-OK:)

Hi Everyone....... I'm so glad to hear that all of you came thru it safe. DM-- Wow, I hope things get back to normal soon! Two of my aunts live in Daytona, one had a tree fall on her house, but they are all ok. The other had windows blown out, and a little water damage, all ok though, as of today one is still without power!! I know how all of you felt, I went thru Hugo, and that was horrible, I'm just glad all of you are safe.

Take Care, you are all in my prayers!!

Fly Fly...... HI :wave2:

We are very glad our online friends are all ok so far. Property can always be fixed or replaced, but family and friends can not. Best wishes to you all.

Hello to all of you! I got my power back today, but I am now working towards getting repairs, etc. My air conditioner was also damaged so we are quite uncomfortable here at home. I may not post as often as I'd like, but I am sure you understand why. I will keep checking in and I thank all of you for your kind words and prayers.

wendypooh-it's great to hear that there is life after a storm. I am here thinking, will this ever end?

Thanks again to all of you!

Hello all. I have been away from the boards for awhile but since the hurricane I have been thinking about all the Florida residents here. I am so glad you are all safe. I was so surprised about how hard Orlando was hit. Spidey, DM, mickeyfan, and everyone I am glad you are all safe. I am sorry about all the damage to your house DM. Wow. I was in a tornado once which tore a ton of shingles off our house and uprooted trees in our neighbors yards. I also managed to be in Panama City when Georges hit a a few years ago. I know how scary storms can be. :) :) :) to see that you are all safe!!Best wishes to you all in getting everything restored and back to normal.

Great news Sharon!! I will email you soon!

They were/are understanding at USO. Things are on the path to normality for me, luckily. It'll take some time before everything is fully normal.

SpideyHulk~~~ Hang in there!!! Things will settle down....... not soon enough I'm sure!! I'm just glad you and your family are fine and safe.

DM ~~ I hope things are looking better for you too. Are you back to work yet? In Sept. I'm on a mission to find you!!! LOL ( I may need some help from that flyfly!!)
I do hope you are all doing well, and know we are all thinking of you.

You guys take care.............
