Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom question...

We will be in Disney in June and think that my 7yo DS would love this game. I'm a little confused about the details and hope that you can help. Are there certain hours that the game is active? I know that the Agent P game in EPCOT ends around 6pm but I wasn't sure if the Sorcerers game has the same limitations. Also, I keep reading about the "cards". Are we able to get 1 free pack per person/day? What about the paid cards that have been mentioned? Do we need them for the game? If so, where do I find them and how much are they?

Thank you!!!

- The game is basically open during park hours. However, I am not sure if it's open during AM or PM EMH.
- You go to the Firehouse near the park entrance to sign up. Every person that is signed up is entitled to 1 pack of cards per day. There is one caveat though. After signing up, on your subsequent MK visits, you will need to play one portal before getting your daily pack of cards. They aren't always really strict about this though. We will have months between games and forget.
- The paid cards are not necessary. There are only about 10 of them. You can buy them at the Firehouse, I guess. You can also buy a kind of cheesy home version of the game from Disney Store that includes a pack of cards that will haver one or two of the special ones. Only really advanced players or collectors need those cards. I can't remember the price.
- You really don't need very many cards to start. The first level, Easy, allows you to beat the villains with any card. The type and strengths don't mean anything at that level.

The Fire Station (where you sign up) opens at regular MK opening (usually 9 am) and closes 1 hour before regular closing.
The game portals are open all the time.
I have played a few of them on my way out of the park after an 11 pm closing.
There are 60 free cards in the set which you get at the Fire Station via the packs of 5.
Each person can get one pack per day of MK entry.
You also get an additional pack each time you complete the game.
The cards are divided by a symbol on the cards...1-22 (star), 23-40 (moon), 41-60 (planet).
Each pack will have one star card and an assortment of the moon and planet cards.
Cards 61-70 (lightning bolt) are available by purchasing the booster packs which are sold at the Emporium on Main St,. the Pin Trader store in Frontierland and at the Circus Tent store.
Each pack sells for $14.95 and contains one of the bolt cards and 6 of the other cards as well as tokens and a board that can be used to play at home (completely separate from the in-park game)
Lastly, they also produce party cards which are handed out to attendees each year of either the Halloween or Christmas parties. Currently they have produced 7 cards for Halloween and 7 for Christmas.
Different villains are susceptible to different spell types (as indicated on the cards) but no specific cards are needed to play or win the game and no cards work better than others.
For those looking to complete a card set, there is a fairly large SOTMK card trading community.
Sometimes you will meet other players at the portals who are looking to trade.
Often there are traders set up in Tortuga Tavern with their binders out.
Facebook has several SOTMK trading groups.

You can do a web search for pictures of the cards and print your own.
I've also seen people use their phones to play images of the cards.

It's so much fun!

The kiosks should be active anytime the park is open, since you can complete the adventures across multiple days (different from the Pirate scavenger hunt in Adventureland, which I believe you have to finish in one day like Agent P's). You can get 1 free pack of cards per person that is playing, per day that you enter MK. On our last trip we had park hoppers, and would bounce over to MK just to get more cards before heading to a different park! There are cards you can purchase - they are available at the Emporium on Main Street, you can also get the binder to hold your cards there. They are 100% not necessary, we completed the missions just on free cards last time, but you can get some rare high-powered cards in the paid packs. I'm not sure how much the paid packs are, but the home game (with cards, game board and such) is $15 on ShopDisney, so I'd expect just the card packs to be less than that.

Have a blast!

The booster packs they sell on ShopDisney are the same as the ones they sell in the park. There are no other "paid packs" and the cards are of no different power level then any of the free cards.
