Sorcerer Pass Increase

What price do you put on a DVC point, it doesn’t seem to be a good return at 80pts for a $904 renewal.

While many would use the rental rate, value is is really subjective.

I will be trading 80 points for my AP renewal because the value for me is in their use, and not some set number I could get doing something else.

Since I am not interested in renting out my points. I am satisfied with getting the approximate $12/point for them by trading for the AP.

Now, I am not using any of the $99 in this because I would be spending that for Memroty Maker anyway and will still be getting that.

You're probably the 1 DVC member who has 80 points sitting around that would have expired anyway.

Nope, not at all. The points I plan to trade will be current points, not expiring points.

As I said, the approximate $12/point in trade value is well worth it to me to keep $900 cash in my account next year without the hassle of renting.

We all value things our own way. I use points for a 1 bedroom on solo trips many times. Now, i will simply do one of those trips in a studio instead and viola, im back to square one!

We don’t have APs now and don’t expect to visit enough in 2025 to justify having one, so it’s really a moot point for me. However, I think I’d prefer the simplicity of giving points to Disney in exchange for an AP instead of dealing with a third party to rent those points, so I’d just look at the cash outlay for the dues on the points (95 points for a new AP) plus the $99 (even though I’d expect to use other parts of MMB) vs. the cash outlay for a new Sorcerer AP ($1079+6.5% tax=$1149). I have to pay the dues anyway, so I might as well get an AP if I have 95 points to spare.

Yes, I can see this being something we use in the future… especially since I’m hung up on the cost increases - we have some direct points from long ago and some resale points. When it’s just my wife and I, we could avoid the hassle of selling our resale contract (which we bought to have enough points to do Aulani and HH)… or the hassle of renting points. The value isn’t exceptional, but it’s a way of turning points into a “cash” benefit very easily..

Does anyone know - I know you need to be a direct owner to access this, but if you are can you use resale points for the passes?

I've got a bajillion dollars this will go up over time.
Not necessarily. AP price increases, but so does the value of points. MFs and hotel room prices (that points buy) increase as well. It would be pure greed if Disney raised the cost of an AP in points over time. Oh, wait...

I would think they would need to be direct or grandfathered points same as if you are trading them for a Disney cruise.

At a bare minimum your DVC points should be valued at the cost of the maintenance fees for that year. If you are trading points in for a Disney cruise or something else and your costs for the MFs for those points exceed the cash costs for what you are trading for then that is a poor financial decision.

Yeah you are not going to want to do that if you are going to be using points that have high MFs like OKW. Current MF is $9.87 and average increase has been ~ 4.5% a year which if that stays the course the new MF will be ~ $10.31 x 95 = ~ $980 + $99= $1079. You are way better off renting out those points and using the cash to buy the passes.
I said NOT to think about it.

The information given to one person who asked is that this will be similar to how it works to trade for the Disney collection….you must have eligible points to trade….and that appears to be direct ones.

But nothing official yet.

It will still work - I just prefer where possible to hang on the direct points since they have a little more flexibility.

Appreciate the discussion here as it brought some optimism back for me! By the time we do Aulani / HH and probably borrow ahead to do some of that, we can bank and be in a spot where it’s just two or three of us. I like the idea of going and having annual dues be essentially the only major expense. We’ll also have the option again for trips outside of school holidays - I miss scheduling trips for the least crowded times of the year!

Actually, think this might work for me. If I rent the hypothetical 95 points out, I would charge $18.00 a point. But if I had to rent those points out, I would have to pay taxes on them of lets call it 30% because in my case the amount of points I would rent would above the deductible part of my dues. So now my points are worth $12.60 after taxes. 95 x $12.60 is $1197. The cost of the Sorcerer Pass after sales tax is $1149.14. The convenience of not having to rent out the points and dealing with inquires like "im looking for akl value studio for tmmr night, plzzz help me" seems kinda worth it.

YMMV

You need to remove the cost of maintenance fees from the $18.00 before you apply the tax.

Definitely not renewing. I think I’ve hit that mental resistance point all things Disney Parks.

Our last visit was less than “magical”.

Luckily we still enjoy the resorts.

Thinking rent 2025, bank 2026, go 2027 in a 2 bedroom villa or CCV Cabin (might have to pull in 2028 points). Then exit DVC 2028/2029 unless it makes sense on paper to continue renting until expiration (the contract, not me!) 😂

The new Membership Magic Beyond, if you buy into it at $99, allows you to buy or renew your Sorcerer AP using points. DVC hasn’t published the price yet, but multiple owners have reported here that CMs told them a renewal will be 80 points and a new one 95 points. The MMB program has other perks included for the $99, see the thread on this forum for details.
I apologize if this is a repeat, but does anyone know if it’s $99 for me to use on my family or $99 per person?

The member who pays the $99 for MMB is the one who has to call MS to buy the APs, but they can buy the APs or discount tickets for members of their household. That member is also the one who has to call MS to buy the BOGO OTUP and has to be present to use the priority access to the lounges, the character meet and greets, etc.

We just renewed last month and probably will continue renewing. As an out-of-state resident, we appreciate the ability to purchase the Sorcerer's pass. And we visit WDW around 10 times a year, so it makes financial sense for us.

Same - I’m not interested in renting - I’d much rather pay the $99 plus 80 points to renew…
