I was told by a cm that the sorcerer hat being constructed at disney/mgm will become a shop. Does anyone know
what kind of shop it will be and just how they are going to design the shop inside it. I say that because the
hat is at an angle and I think it would look kind of wierd.

like three months ago, Eyes and Ears (the WDW co. newsletter) said that the hat would feature interactive trivia kiosks. There may also be merchandise available, but I have heard nothing about it being "a shop".

It doesn't seem out of the question....the hat may be tilted at an angle, but the rim is parallel to the ground.

I recall reading something along the lines of a pin station, but I also wouldn't discount the possibility of it turning into a store.

HBK, We were there just 2 weeks ago, The rim of the hat is a good 6 feet higher on one side than the other and is not parrellel with the ground at all. While we were there one of the CM's indicated that there would be kiosks that showed things about the life of Walt and the history behind all of the parks and his dreams. He also indicated to me that there would be a large pin station directly under the hat.

He also indicated that the construction is so that the hat will be a permanent Icon similar to the construction of the Hand and Wand on SE at Epcot. They are designing it similar to that so that changes/theming can be made to it easily.

:smooth:

From what I read it would be along the line of the small shop in the old JII. Some t-shirts, pins, and hats (mabey a cup or one of thoes things they sell at night durring the shows that light up ...)

Talking about the lights, in MGM and Epcot I saw these things that you spinn and some LCD's display a message in a circle...

it is supposed to have pins that light up in certain areas or at certain times. Like they pick up a signal and light up. For example, at a certain point during fantasmic, say, the pins would light up.

I don't like the bah.

Disrailfan's info is right on the money. They just had a big meeting recently for cast members at the studios explaining just about everything that's gonna happen for the 100 Years of Magic celebration. I don't know if all the details are supposed to be made public yet, but I know we can say the hat is going to be the new studio icon, replacing the Mickey-eared water tower on merchandise and promotional materials and such. It's going to have the interactive kiosks with Disney history and trivia under a tent right there, as well as permanent pin carts. So, it won't really be a shop, but there'll be stuff there to buy of course. :)
