Out of curiosity, I checked the cost of my flight today, it went up by 200 dollars per ticket! Now, I could pick another time, and the price would be only 11 dollars higher, but WOW!:eek:My vacation is in Sept

I have a family of 5 and have been watching the prices on Southwest rise every week. I kept waiting because I was I was so close to a free flight, and made enough purchases on credit card to put us over the top for a that flight, but needed to wait for the new statement. So today.......by luck I stumbled on a better deal (Airtran) in a closer (and less costly for parking) airport ABE. Without the "free flight" I spent about $100.00 less plus whatever I save for parking at PHL. So I am glad I waited.......with the price of fuel going up every day I was just getting very anxious! We were thinking about driving from PA......made that drive many times in years past.....but I would rather spend my precious vacation time in Disneyworld!

I bought my tickets last month for my end of May/beginning of June trip. Going out of Boston at $84 each way. Same flights are now are now $214 each way!

I'll join the support group;)

recap/rewhine/i waited to buy 2 seats over the weekend when libya issue arose. Checked again Monday am, rates were stable, Bing said to wait & i was due AT CC vouchers which are late as usual.:headache: Decided to book a few hours later & found the RT fare went up $100 pp on SWA, time to pull the trigger.:sad2:

So annoyed though that total cost for 2 pp was more than i had paid for 3 same dates last year (end of July, weekend travel).:confused3

It's all relative though, appears i've gotten a 'bargin' afterall ;)same 2 flights on SWA up in dribs & drabs all week another $120 and comparable AirTran flights are now $300 more than what i paid for my seats on SWA. Note: i checked the seat availability on AT and very few spoken for either

imo they are testing the market. Im still holding out for sale prices 2 months out on SWA:wizard:to try & rebook & have credit in hand for later travel this year.

I was reading another post earlier and it seems Airtran has baggage issues, even though I will be paying for them......can't win it seems?

my experience w/AT over the years is that they do have issues - flight changes/equipment gate cancellations/mishandled & lost luggage - but after hearing me out, they have always made it right for me (i.e. compensation):thumbsup2unlike what i've experienced w/SWA's customer service program.

I understand that they need to turn a profit and it's their call as to luggage policies. jmho if they decide to change the luggage size/weight requirments and they're really not trying to 'catch' anybody off guard:rolleyes:, they really should be more pro-active as to advisement/including a prominent disclaimer on the website.

I am also celebrating buying our plane tickets about 10 days ago - our same flights on JetBlue have steadily gone up. They are now nearly $300 more per person than when we purchased.

HOLY SMOKE!:scared1:

I am also celebrating buying our plane tickets on Friday (2 days ago) - our same flights on Allegiant have steadily gone up. We booked 4 roundtip tickets for $900 they are now nearly $100 more per person than when we purchased. Glad we booked early its steadily going up.

We bought ours 2 weeks ago, for a June trip and are glad we did. We we watching for deals because my brother had a free ticket on American, and were hoping they would drop. Thought we would end up on AirTran because they were the best deal, by $80 a ticket, for about a month, but for one day United dropped their prices as much as half ($156). We ended up getting round trip from Chicago for $182 a ticket.

When I checked last week they are now over $400 and AirTran is over $300.

Similar story here. We made a quick decision last week to surprise our soon-to-be 5 year old DD with a birthday trip to WDW in early April. For the three of us, it was about $400 more than we paid last year in May but we had some SW ticketless travel funds to use so it wasn't too bad.

For the heck of it I checked this morning, and the same trip would cost almost $200 more per person if we booked today instead of last week. Whew!

Changed my flight times on Thursday when I saw a price drop on JB. New flights cost $310pp rt. Today same flights are $796pp rt.

Now, you could opt for different flight times and still travel on the same days for $254pp rt. but you would be arriving at 11pm and leaving at 7am so losing 2 days of vacation! Of course you can always fly in late the night before to get the cheaper airfare and stay at a value for $90/night.

Anyway, I was told by a frequent traveler never to book anything on a weekend (Fri - Mon). it will be interesting to see what happens to prices later this week.

Me too, actually I bought about a month ago at $198 R/T. Shortly after they started going up. Lately the same flights were at $600 and change- triple the cost! Granted, one plane is almost full, but among all the possible flights on United those dates, the cheapest was $514.

I can still find Continental for under $300 (barely) and maybe some reasonable flights on AT if we wanted to drive 3 hours to airport.

As a side note, I did price out Continental for kicks the other day and was just floored when I got the option to upgrade to First Class for only $5604. That would have to be some awfully nice FC.

I would of bought tickets already with the way they seem to be going if the booking window for southwest was open for oct. :(

Now news reports that sw has raised rates $10 across the board.

Don't think I will be able to get the $74 each way I got last summer.

We had been watching our JAC to CDG flight with a day or two on either side of our late Sept. dates. It opened around $900 and watched the flight climb up to $1400. I told DH to wait. Two weeks ago Tuesday I check Delta once again and our flight was at the $896. I texted, called, cell, work phone and didn't let up till DH told me he had our tickets. We saved $1K by just waiting and checking several times a day.

Sorry not Disney but a great savings.

im impatiently waiting for AT CC reward email to appear in my inbox, so im monitoring flights in Oct

funny thing is the $350 RT seems downright cheap compared to the current summer fares of near $1000 pp RT, despite it being almost $150 more pp than what i paid last year.:rolleyes1

maybe they're setting the bar high to hedge their bets, then will eventually reduce the prices back to slightly above the norm, if sales are down:confused3
