This will be our fourth trip to disney in 6years. We are racking our brain as to where we would want to eat. We cannot think of a restaurant where the food was anything but mediocre (even at the castle). When I pay $200 for a family of four I would expect a decent meal. I've always looked forward to trying new places but just can't get excited this time. Can anyone tell me of a kid friendly restaurant where the food has been exceptional

Have you considered the dining plan? honestly, with a couple of bad meals i had, i'd be pissed if i paid for them in cash. LMAO! :lmao:

Tusker House breakfast has terrific food. The biggest variety i've seen yet.
California Grill (signature) is fantastic. By far the best steak ive had yet.
Cape May, Kona, Crystal Palace & Ohana all have pretty good food IMHO. Never had a bad meal.

WGP express (marketplace) is INCREDIBLE for a QS credit and by far surpassed some of the TS meals ive had at disney. Just amazing. I highly recommend it.

Raglan Road and Rose & Crown were both pretty good.

Im sure there are more places i'll think of later on. Hope this helps!

Can you tell us some of the places you've eaten so far that you havent been impressed with?????

I know what the OP means. I, too, am tired of paying such high prices for food that is, "Meh." We still eat at our old favorites because my DD's (17 and 22) love our traditions, but we eat way more counter service than we used to. I enjoy the flexibility of counter service/snacks/(margaritas!). But I am lucky that my kids are grown up and very low maintenance. When they were younger I appreciated the chance to sit down, be waited on, and take a nice break from the parks.

goofyintoronto has all good suggestions. I really liked Tusker House the last couple times, and it was pretty inexpensive for Disney, but they made it into a character meal and it is more expensive now.

Tusker House, BOMA, O'Hana, Cape May, Crystal Palace, are all great kid friendly meals.

If the food is that bad or overpriced, rent a car for $30 per day and go to Golden Corall and the like every day...

Crystal Palace has had good food every time and Winnie the Pooh and friends are there. Garden Grill is really good too with Mickey and friends. 1900 Park Fare is another good one for dinner. Cinderella's stepsisters were really entertaining.

We've been leaning toward more counter service, too. We still do a few special meals per trip, but cs works well for us and is a LOT more budget friendly.

Cape May Clambake is very good with a big variety.
Teppan Edo good food and entertaining chefs

The food is ridiculously overpriced, regardless of the quality, which is hit or miss and sometimes just bad (Crystal Palace breakfast). For example, Fogo de Chao is $51.50 which isn't much more than some of the Disney buffets. On Trip Advisors, Golden Corrall in Orlando ranks ahead of several Disney buffets.

We were at Disney last week and had wonderful meals the whole trip! This was a SHARP contrast to our trip in August, where pretty much every meal was mediocre. I wonder if the food is better at slow times?

I think disney is just like everywhere else (sometimes my food at outback is awesome, sometimes it's horrible!!)

just musing.....

here's my list where we had very good meals!!

Captain's Grille at YC
Hollywood Brown Derby
Teppan Edo (My Favorite of the trip!!!):goodvibes
Wolfgang Puck at Marketplace (bfast and lunch were great!!)
Earl of Sandwich

Hope that helps!!!!!!!! Good luck!!!

I never had problems with the park food but I did stay off property in 2010 with some friends. If you rent a car there are so many places to go to. I went to some very fancy steakhouse, forgot the name off hand it was right by icebar in downtown orlando i believe. It was incredible! A little pricey but really good. I had steak and shake which was good nothing incredible but good. I went to golden coral but thats not my cup of tea but my friends loved it. There were tons of resturants in orlando, there are even those dinner shows which are fun! I went to 2 of them. You ahve choices but will need a rental car though....

Never heard of Fogo de Chao...what is it??

All you can eat Brazilian steakhouse that usually rates in the top-10 in restaurants in whichever city it is in. You can find it in larger cities - D.C., Atlanta, Las Vegas, etc. They actually are opening one in Orlando next month.

I hear ya....we got tired of paying so much for so little which we didn't enjoy. We dropped our expectations and stick to less expensive TS lunches and grab something easy for dinner. Every other trip or so we splurge on a good steak meal at Shula's or Charlies.

But we ate at Boatrights (POR) last month and were pleasantly surprised at how much we really enjoyed our meal. It used to be a favorite but dropped off a bit so we stopped going but decided to give it a try and were glad we did. We both had the prime rib, I think DH had a shrimp appetizer and we both had dessert and the bill was reasonable.

Fogo is a Brazilian Steakhouse. They keep bringing you cuts of meat until you pop. Think super duper nice Ohana's.

That being said, I am sorry you don't like the prices at Disney. On the bright side, that's one less person I am fighting for on the ADR list.

See, you will always get different opinions on Dis....cause I disagree re 1900 PF....I thought the food at dinner was VERY disappointing. Awful quality & variety. Such a shame. Even desserts & kids section was lacking. The characters were a riot thou! so much fun.

Cape May Clambake is very good with a big variety.

Yes! I agree about Teppan. SO GOOD and entertaining. Cape May (bf) was amazing, and i heard many good things about the clam bake.

I have to say thou, I am pleasantly surprised with the restaurants/food in Disney. Out of all the restaurants in disney, the only disappointing meals we've had were at 1900 PF, Le Cellier, and Chef Mickeys. The one TERRIBLE meal we had (which we'd never go to again) was at Tony's. All other places were actually pretty fantastic! Im surprised to hear someone say most restaurants at disney disappoint them. Out of ALL the restaurants in Disney, all of them are just meh???? As far as price goes, I dont find dis restaurants over priced compared to outside restaurants. At least with disney its a unique experience, (characters and the like).

I have only had a few bad meals in Disney over the years. I find that Tony's on Main Street is usually just ok and we rarely go there. I was not a fan of the Mexican food at San Angel Inn, i found it to be too bland for me. I really enjoy Ohanas, that was slipping for a while but recently it has been very good to us.

That's why we go off property now. There are so many fabulous restaurants in the area. When you pay for the dining plan; you are still paying for the mediocre food. We like the signature restaurants but they do really add up. We ate at CRT exactly once and felt the food was way overpriced. We liked Cali Grill, the Yachtsman, and Flying Fish. We also really enjoyed Garden Grill.

I wouldn't say the food was bad or mediocre elsewhere. I just think most restaurants are way overpriced on property.

We had free dining for our trip in January, so we weren't in sticker shock at all! In fact, we talked about how we felt like criminals walking out only having paid the tip.

In the past, we've always paid OOP. When I look at prices, a lot of how I look at it is by who is eating the meal. For instance, we ate at the Cape May Buffet for the first time on this last trip. I believe the price is a little over $40.00. I could seriously eat my body weight in seafood, so I wouldn't have a problem with the $40.00. However, my 12 year old nephew is a Disney adult. He would go to that buffet and possibly eat macaroni and cheese and a dinner roll. He'd probably want to go to a counter service and get some chicken nuggets as we were leaving. There is no way on earth it would be worthwhile to pay over $40.00 for him to go there.

We also ate at Tusker House in AK for dinner. Dinner is not a character meal. There were some things there that we really enjoyed, and everything was good. There was a lot of variety. I thought that restaurant would be a pretty good value.

50's Prime Time in DHS also seems to be a pretty good value. Nothing is spectacular... but everything is good.

We really liked Via Napoli. That is the only sit-down one we do as the sit-down places are way too expensive for our family of 5!
