Sooooooo many questions!

When we go to St. Martin I don't think we want to do any of the tours. We would like to rent a car and do our own thing. (shopping and maybe going to the beach)

Is this a good idea or should we take a bus or taxi?

Any Idea of how much it is to rent a car for 5 people?

Should I make ressie now for the car? (We're going in Aug)

Or are there any tours that are a "Must do" in St Martin?

you will dock close enough to walk to the shopping streets. can't help w/ the other questions. have a great cruise!

There is a water taxi ($5 per adult) that will take you to Great Bay Beach and Phillipsburg for shopping. The taxi stand is to the left after you get off the ship. There are a few gift shops right as you get off the ship, but you neded to take the water taxi to get to the main shopping in Phillipsburg.

If you want to go to the other beaches, there are taxi stands to the right after you get off the ship with signs indicating which beach the taxi is going to and the fare.

We took the water taxi to Great Bay Beach, rented beach chairs, played in the water for a bit, walked into town for a little shopping, and returned to the ship on the water taxi. For $20 (the cost of the taxi and the cost of the beach chairs) we had a fun day.

Depending on the season te car rental could cost $60-75 for the day. If at all possible make your reservation before you leave the states.
