We leave tomorrow for a vacation at Vero Beach. Everything I can find about Sonya's says "romantic" and "intimate." Our daughters are 9 and 10 years old and are very well behaved in upscale restaurants. On our recent WDW trip, they ate at California Grill and were perfectly behaved young ladies. So will we feel out of place as a family at Sonya's? Should we just skip it this time around? The last time we went to VB was in 2002 when we had 1 kid and she was 5 months old, so we didn't even think about fancy dinners at that point.

Also, the information I can find says it is only open on certain nights. Does anyone know which nights?

Dinner 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm Thursday to Sundays.

Not sure about your daughters. Maybe call the restaurant and ask them: (772) 234-2180

I don't think you will be out of place at all. We've taken our well behaved children to Sonya's many times.

Have taken our son to Sonyas since he was 10 years old, not too upscale for children. It is our favorite restaurant at VB, quiet enough to talk, and staff happy to see children. Enjoy!

thanks to everyone for the info. It turns out that my in laws have graciously decided to pay for all of our dinners here, so we're not going to go to Sonya's this time around. (MIL said, "We don't need anything more upscale than this." when we ate in Shutters the first night.) But now DH and I are talking about making VB an annual trip, so maybe next time we'll give it a try.

We have gone there with children under 5 a number of times and they weren't the only children there. I think when you are eating at a Disney restaurant children are expected (except maybe Victoria and Alberts or something like that). My kids are generally well behaved and if they weren't I would not have hesitated to take them out of there, but that would be true at a fast food joint as well so not a big deal. It helps that they really like to eat so they are interested in the food!

Translation:

Romantic - dark decor with candles on the tables

Intimate - not a large restaurant.

I think it's like reading a real estate listing where it says cozy and quaint. :goodvibes

I'd consider Cali Grill to be more upscale but it's larger. If children were acting up in Sonya's it would be fairly obvious to everyone dining simply because of the size of the restaurant. But it's certainly not an adults only dining experience.
