Lol I wasn't debating a57 vs a58. Like I said I want the a57. It seems like the upgrades on the a58, like OLED VF, don't make up for slower burst and non-swivel lcd. But I'm wondering if the price will go down when the a58 comes out. It's only 1 year old and already $100 cheaper though.
Understood. My point was, that there will be no reason to lower the price further, as it's already superior to the newer model.
If anyone priced it significantly below the a58-- they wouldn't sell any a58s!
Does seem like an unusual situation. The reality is though, it's simply a mislabeling of the device-- in Sony forums, there has been debate that the camera should really be called the a38 or a48.
There are rumors that they were going to release the a38.. Then at the last minute, stuck an a58 label on it. It's a realignment of the entire product line.
Basically, the a58 is an entry level camera. Very good for entry level, but still entry level. The a57 is a mid level camera.
So to get a brand new a57 body for $499-- I consider it a good deal.
Now, with all technology... Wait around and prices come down. Want to wait 6 months and find a store dumping their remaining a57s on eBay for $400, go ahead.
Wait a year... And maybe you get the a65 for $500. Wait 2 years, and pick up a used a77 for $500.
But where things stand now, I'd say it's hard to beat the a57 for $500.
