Anyone have this camera? Tell me about it.....

Starting to looking for a new camera and someone recommended this one. Have cannon point and shoot now and want to upgrade for crisper shots and able to take great low light photos for our Christmas trip (think osborne lights and MVMCP parade). Don't want DSLR.

Camera shop tried to push me to the a6000 but not liking the 799 price tag. 500 is closer to my budget.

The whole NEX lineup, including the 5T, are essentially dSLRs stuck in a smaller body. They use the same sensors as Sony/Nikon/Pentax dSLRs. Thus, they can get the same low light performance as those cameras. Though low light performance is also equally about the lens.
Where is trails a traditional dSLR is mostly in autofocus performance.

If you can, I would spend the little extra for the A6000. The autofocus and viewfinder will be worth it. Having shot with the Sony nex myself, I can say it's hard to use the lcd in bright light. The viewfinder is a life saver when composing and reviewing shots in sunlight. The viewfinder for me would be worth the difference. The A6000 also uses Sony's new 24 mp sensor which I here is just as good in low light as the 16 mp sensor in the Nex 5T but retains more detail in case you want to crop an image.

Good advise. Plus - the newAF on the a6000 is on par or better than any low-mid range DSLR.

You can also get a Nex 6 now for about the same price as the 5t. At least that gives you a good viewfinder.

Sorry, can't comment specifically about the NEX 5T but I've had the NEX 5N for awhile and love the camera.

But I'd also suggest looking at the NEX 6 too.

Hello!

I own several Sony cameras [5N, 6, TX20, Rx100iii and an A77]. I too agree with all of the above comments...outdoors a viewfinder is nice to have, however you also have work arounds such as inexpensive lcd hoods. I havent checked prices on the 6 and 5T, but if they are similar in cost, I highly recommend the 6 as well, such a wonderful camera [be sure to pick up a 50 1.8 for your low light prime lens, if you can?]. Most of all, enjoy whichever camera / system you get! Good luck!
