i bought a sony HC30E to use in disney next year, but now i'm getting in a bit of a tiz over batteries. If i film all parades etc i will probably use it for about 2 hours a day,so do you think i need about 3 batteries and also a charger (can't charge on the camera if i'm using it can i!!!).I know a lot of you will think this is a stupid question, but a really am a camcorder novice-so help me please!!! :confused3

i've got a sony hc19 (i think thats what it is anyway), my tip is to look on ebay, we got 10 mini dv tapes for about £12, the longest life battery they use for £20 ish (the official sony one is about £120) and a dual charger (that charges the batteries without having to do it through the camcorder itself) for £40. they all came from the far east or the states but theyre great stuff, and a lot cheaper than you'd get them over here. pm me if you need any more help
hope thsi helps you!

If you charge the batteries through the night you should be fine. My husband films every thing and has never had a problem.

Was also going to say charge the batteries when back at the room and overnight. A battery usually lasts about 100 minutes or a bit less if the LCD is open all the time. I have always mangaed on one battery even if filming shows etc.
Claire ;)

Am I the only one to always find it tapes everything - and dies with 5 minutes of a show left to run? ;)

You vcan get a long life batter4y, a NFP90 for that particular make for £100 ish (see here http://www.sony.co.uk/view/ShowProd...n_GB&pageType=Overview&category=CHG+Camcorder ) if its like my NPQM91D long life battery, which i use on my HDR-HC1E Camcorder, it will last for up to five hours continuous filming between charges.

You can recharge overnight as the charger will be multi voltage and being Lithium Ion batteries, they do not have a memory which reduces the efficienmcy of batteries.

To help save battery life use you view finder and not the LCD screen as this zaps your power very quickly.

To be honest I wouldn't tape the parades in real time I would just do snippets of it. Over the years I have found that the most interesting bits of the tapes are the ones with the kids in it and not really the shows/parades.

Again, it depends on the camera and battery. I lose 20 mins out of a five hour battery just using the LCD screen and that's with the camera in HDV mode.

If you tape all of the parades, you can then edit it into smaller pieces with a camera editing suite and still keep the full parade intact for posterity.

:sunny: Thanks everyone!!loads of great advice, think i will get couple of spare batteries and a charger as i know i will want to film everything!!!will try and do it without the LCD screen though. :sunny: :sunny: :sunny:

If you want Sony accessories, I would wait until you get out there.
For example, NFP90 is £99.00 in UK shops and $149.99 thereabouts depending on tax paid in US shops, and at $1.706=£1gbp comes to £87.91.

If you go to http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INT...rt?CategoryName=dcc_DICamcorders&Dept=cameras
This will show you the cost of accessories in the US and you can find the fo9llowing stores with the dealer locator:-
