Looking to purchase one of these 2 cameras. Any input? Suggestions? Which do you all like better?

Thanks :thanks:

Being a Canon enthusiast, I would go with the Powershot. Not only is the Canon a good camera, it comes from one of the two major camera manufacturers (the other being Nikon) that pros and semi-pros opt for.

I know nothing about the Sony. That said, I own the S3. I am extremely pleased with it overall. The zoom (12x) is fabulous, I love the image stabilization, and it provides a good balance between a point and shoot and a SLR. In other words, you can do a lot of your own settings if you want, but you don't have to. My vote is for it, for sure!

I have the H5 and love it! I did have a Cannon prior to this, but the H5 just felt better in my hands. The pics are amazing and I love the bigger LCD. I am very happy with my decision.

I am torn between these two cameras also. The S3 is a little cheaper at the moment.

Hello. I am shopping for a new camera for myself to start a photo hobby. something I always wanted to do, just didn't seem to have the time. Have several Kodak P&S digitals around the house, but want to do more. They seem to take so long to take the picture...so I guess I'm looking for shutter speed, so it takes several in a row to capture just the right expression, right?

Anyway, Walmart has this Kodak on sale this week for the holiday sale. Does it compare to the Cannon S3 at all?

So many thanks.

If you are talking about how long each pic takes, then that is shutter speed, but that is not directly what you need to improve. You need a higher quality lens. These higher end superzoom cameras generally do have better lenses and that should help. You also need to look for a model that has higher ISO settings that are not too noisy. If a superzoom is not needed, I believe that there are a few Fujis out there that are currently considered the best at low light shots. The Sony and Canon would both be considered better than average though. I have never owned one, but many users of Kodak complain about the low light capabilities.

For taking many pictures in a row, that is not shutter speed. That is the drive mode frames per second. It is also called burst mode. To get this really good, you pretty much have to go up to a DSLR.

Well my Canon A70 died last night and we are taking my Mom to WDW this weekend so it forced me to make my choice.

After going to the store to play with each camera I purchased the Sony H5. That 3" screen is so clear and nice.

OT- Found out that Canon has an issue with the CCD Lens going out on my Canon A70 and several other models so they are going to fix it for free including shipping it both ways. When I get it back I will give it to DH for work. :thumbsup2

:thanks:

I just purchased the Canon - got a great deal for it at Circuit City. I used it today for the first time as we cut down our Christmas tree. :thumbsup2 It was very easy to handle, fits well in your hand, and took some great pictures. The one feature I do not like is the flash does not automatically raise when a flash is need. The Sony does have that feature.

Thanks again!!
