Sony A55

Well, it's final. I bought a Sony A55 with a kit lens. Why? Well, beyond the GPS, it's the articulating screen - something I really want for Disney. Gunna pick up a CZ 16-80 f/3.5-4.5 lens for it. I would like something larger, but don't want that much bulk and think I won't be happy with the 16-105, which I seriously looked at.

I'll have to pick up a few Class 10 cards, gunna hunt down online sales, but I typically only buy Sandisk, yeah, I'm anal, but hopefully I can catch a deal.

But I'm happy! YIPPY! I'll let you all know how the camera is!

Congrats on the A55! I've been contemplating a NEX or maybe upgrading the A550 to A580 to get some of the new features but I had a hard time putting down the A55 in the store. It's a very slick camera. If they had a body only there it might have been sitting next to the turkey for Thanksgiving!

Looking forward to your thoughts on it.

Congrats! I've got an A55 body only on preorder on Amazon, but still backordered so I doubt I'll have it before our trip in a week (next day shipping selected just in case!)

Not keeping the EVIL because I can't see using it after getting the A55. Also, I'm pretty mad at Ritz who didn't tell me that the NEX-3 doesn't have an IR sensor and that there are only 3 lenses for the NEX, and the 18-200 I want is $799!!! Ouch - no other lenses will work unless you use them in manual focus/manual aperture mode. I love the NEX, but not as much as I think I'll like the A55. Plus, I'm looking for a nice body that takes SD cards so I can use an EyeFi Card again.

I'm actually selling off about $6,000 worth of equipment this month, in an effort to realign my collection with things I actually use. Like, I haven't picked up my 135mm f/2 in about 6 months. That, and I may end up with an A950 if I like the a55... but that's another story.

Yeah, I bought my A55 from canada on ebay, should have it next week, not happy with Sony's backorder of the camera.

The backorder date on Sony's site went from 11/26 to 12/13, so I don't imagine my Amazon order will arrive any time soon ..

Yeah, I found out last year when i ordered my work laptop, their backorder date is an automated guess - or atleast that's how the customer service person put it.

I also picked up the CZ 16-80. This will be my walk around camera, that and a Nishika N9000 35mm 3d film camera.

Congratulations on the new camera. I am just curious why you chose the A55 over the A580. The sensors are the same and they both have the fold out LCD's, so what features swung you to the A55? Was it the new SLT technology or what? Just curious, no other reason.

Because of the GPS and Compass onboard. Technically, this camera will belong to the company I work for and will be my development camera. We're looking to use this camera in our next smart van. Nice perk egh?

This little lovely jumped into my bag just before I left MN.

I just missed getting to a KEH roadshow to see what they would offer for the A550. I wanted to see what they might give for it but my flight got in too late to go get boxes and such and get to the store. I think I'll see if I have any luck on Craigslist with the A550.

I'm looking forward to the smaller camera to carry at times and to the added functionality like the panorama, in camera HDR and the 10 fps! I had gotten the A550 for the 7fps and it did a very good job but 10 - can't wait! Played around with the video a little and so far I'm impressed. Sony of course placed just about every other camera on sale so it made the decision between the a580 and the a55 that much harder but the a55 is just so slick! All the camera store staff I spoke to were quite enthused over it. This was the last body only they had amongst 7 stores although they did have a couple of kits still. It has apparently been selling quite well.

Wow, okay, I didn't know this camera did HDR in camera. I looked into it, here is a nice write up with examples. Sounds fun!

I'm most disappointed about not having the awesome HD video, just our basic flash camcorder instead. I even bought a hotshoe mounted external mic in anticipation. Oh well..
