DS just started a full time job. He likes it and it is a decent job for now. He plans on going back to school eventually but needs full time work right now. DS takes his lunch to work and keeps it in the common fridge used by all the employees. He clearly labels his lunch with his name. He has caught his immediate supervisor going through his lunch twice. This guy was eating the bacon off his sandwich one time and the last time had the bag open and was inventoring his lunch....DS has laughed it off at first and didnt say anything but it is getting old. This guy is pretty much a jerk anyhow....and advised DS on his first day that any incidents, problems or issues were to stay within the team and under NO circumstance should anything be brought to the upper mgmt. To add a twist...my dh is friends with director of the business and also is a very good customer of the business. Any advise for DS? I told him we could pack the lunch in a zippered lunch tote and lock it with a small suitcase lock or he could leave the lunch in his car with an ice pack...The supervisor is a grown man....

I would just leave it in the car with ice pack. THis is not a uncommon thing .. I always wonder what people are thinking. :confused3

I would also think leaving it in the car in a small cooler with an icepack might be the easiest solution.

It would at least not require a confrontation with the supervisor.

I would pack a dead mouse or a doggie doodle in my lunch box and let him open that.

This is along the same lines as what I was thinking. After a few days of unhappy surprises, he could probably actually start putting his real lunch in the fridge again without any issues.

I'd leave it in a spot where the supervisor can't get at it. Locked in the car is probably good, or if your son has a work "space" (ie-desk or cubicle), then leave it in his space in a lunch bag with an ice pack. If you can get a lunch bag that does lock, that would be good as well...

The supervisor may be the age of an "adult" but he is certainly no "grown man".

If it was me, I'd probably ask the supervisor (in front of the entire "team") what he wanted for lunch the next day as I'd want to make sure I packed enough so there were enough leftovers so I'd have enough to eat. And then after he ate it, double check with him (again in front of the team) is it was good enough, and what should I bring the next day.

What about a sticker to seal the lunch bag? Then the guy would actually have to tear the sticker in order to open the sack and surely he wouldn't do that?!

That's really disgusting and shocking that someone is getting into your son's food. :sad2:

that is heinously disgusting. :sad2:

also, the whole "don't get upper management involved" thing is a HUGE red flag. Dude knows he's doing something weird, and doesn't want to get bagged for it.

i'd try the more passive route first, but absolutely would say something to the thief's supervisors if it continued.

also, i happened to stumble on this the other day...

thank you, google, for letting me find it again, lol

The supervisor has a screw loose. The lunch thing, and the "never tell upper mgmt anything" is a concern. Your DS's lunch is the least of his problems. Good luck to your DS, maybe the supervisor will self-implode.

I love the Fridge Locker idea. You can see into it...so the boss will be able to see what he won't be able to steal :-)

I'd make a fake lunch with spoiled/rotten food (or a little laxative in it) and let him eat it and keep the "real" lunch in his car. :lmao: Ok, maybe not, but it's fun to think those things up.

That is GREAT!!

I can't believe a grown adult would go into someone else's lunch. Where on Earth is this considered acceptable? We had that issue a couple of years ago so the 3 of us in I.T. bought a small fridge that we keep in our server room. No one can get in there other than security and us, not even the CEO. Problem solved.

They finally caught the person who was taking lunches and they were fired that day. If you can't trust someone with a lunch how can you trust them with the company's property.

We had a lunch-swiper at my old office. Once a bunch of us went out for pizza and had some leftovers, so we peeled up the cheese, put a ton of salt under it, then put in it the fridge. The next day it was gone, but nothing else ever disappeared again!

The supervisor does have a screw loose, that's for sure. Since your son knows who it is, and the supervisor probably knows he knows, it might be better not to sabotage the food, but to use either the fridge locker or a cold-pack that he could keep at his own workspace or in the car.

This same thing was happening to my brother and his co-workers. They weren't sure who was doing it so one day my brother made a sandwich and in between the guys put some hair ;) It never happened again! Kind of disgusting but when you are left with no lunch and no time or money to go buy a lunch and are sick of starving then it calls for drastic measures!

That is super weird --- I'd be looking for a new job, or at least a transfer to a new supervisor, if I were your son!

I keep my lunch at my desk. The fridge at my office is gross, and some days it is so packed with stuff that you couldn't even squeeze in a yogurt if you tried. I bought a nice insulated lunch bag and have never had any problems.

oreo cookies...replace the filling with thick library paste (like little kids use) or add a hefty dash of white pepper to them...

Chocolate brownies made with laxatives....

Sprinkle the food liberally with ipecac!

Let the dog or cat lick the sandwich, then wait until the supervisor is nibbling from it to say "oh wait...my dog licked that this morning!"

That said, I LOVE the fridge locker!! Very cute.
