Son's friends traveling with us ??

My 16 year old son is bringing two friends (15 & 16) along on our Disney trip next week. When traveling with kids that are not your own (and their parents will not be traveling), what should we have in case one of the boys becomes ill or has an emergency? I assume something signed by the parent giving us permission for treatment and a copy of their insurance card. Or with cell phones, is that even necessary?

Nothing is necessary anymore - have them bring ID (if they have one) and insurance card. IME even with a note they won't treat until they reach the parents.

I travel with teens that aren't my kids often and this is my experience.

I have to agree. This is in no way the same as you might face but our house caught fire when we weren't home and none of the neighbors knew our cell phone numbers or where we were. The Fire Department, who knows how they did this but our last name is a very unique one, called my mother-in-law in Maryland (we live in Georgia). She at least was able to tell them where we were. (BTW, house is being rebuilt on the inside, nothing happened except to one room but the smoke and water damage was immense)

So, think about a very severe crisis and the only way to get treatment for a child is to call the parents and the parents don't have their phone or can't hear their phone or their phone is not responding.
