I thought I read somewhere that there is more room in the front of the Song planes because that is where it used to be first class. Does anyone know if this is true? I know on Jetblue they tell you that certain rows have more leg room but I could not find that info on the Song website.

IF so does that mean they are using old planes? I like the fact that Jetblue has new planes, but I've also read that the SOng planes seem to be in nice shape.

Any ideas?

I flew Song recently and the plane seemed to be new, I don't know if everyone is new though. It was a great airline, I would use them again. The leg room was fine but then I don't know what your looking for. I usually use Jetblue (love them by the way) and Song was ALMOST comparable to them. Check out the site the previous poster mentioned, it is great for seating comparisons.

The first 8 rows on the Song planes are in the former first class cabin, where there were 6 rows of seats. I'm not sure if there's more leg room, but the cabin with just 8 rows is kind of nice.

Well, they're not new planes. Song's 757s were removed from Delta's fleet and have had a new coat of paint and the interiors upgraded. Supposedly, Song took Delta's best 757's, but I have no idea if that is true or not.

Thanks! I looked at the seatguru website and they don't list Song. For me it doesn't matter so much but my Dh is pretty tall and I thought if there was a section with more room then why not chose that! I just know that when you chose your seat on Jetblue, they specifically tell you that certain rows have a bit more leg room.

I would prefer Jetblue, but we would save about $400 using Song for our family and that's a pretty good deal. I just don't like the idea of flying old planes, so thats why I asked. Thanks again for the input!

Ok, I have to edit this to add that Yes, Song is listed on seatguru, it is just under Delta...great info! It does show that the front of the plane is a seperate cabin, but no mention of the seats being larger or with more legroom. You gotta love the internet some times with the great amount of info that the compusive planner gan gather!!

Seats in the front of the Song planes are no different than the other seats. Unless you sit in the front row on either side. That way you don't have a seat in front of you, just a wall. There is a little more room there. My dh is 6'4" and is okay with the seats on Song. Not as good as flying first class, but he has found it to be okay. He loves it if he can get an empty seat behind one of us. That way he knows no one is going to be putting their seat back onto his legs. Now that bugs him. If there is an empty seat in the row behind us he has been able to move there.

Actually, SeatGuru does have Song there. Try this link. If it doesn't load right away, just refresh and you can get it.

If Song is gonna save you $400, then by all means go with Song. Of course Song has the added advantage of being a partner in Magical Express, which is a huge convenience in my book. My other favorite airline is JetBlue (if only they had a music option on their TVs, and maybe some food), but Magical Express tips our famly into the Song camp. It also helped that for our October flights, Song was cheaper.

You mention your DH being "pretty tall"; I am not sure how tall, but I am 6'3" (so I can see over most ppl's heads on the Boston subway system;)) and fit nicely in standard Song (and JetBlue) seating. The JetBlue seats have more legroom in the aft section of the plane, while the Song seats are pretty much all the same, with the usual legroom advantages of the exit row seats. Row 1 also has more legroom, but that is one of the rows reserved for those with mobility impairments (like my wheelchair-bound DS) and unaccompanied minors.

Just a note also, SeatGuru comments that seats in the forward section "are nice economy seast, as you are in the smaller & quieter cabin".

Thanks so much everyone! Its been over 6 years since we've flown as a family so I am really trying to get as much info as possible! We have driven from NY the past few times which is fine but just takes more time from the real "vacation" part. So, to me if we can book the $59 fares from Song, it would be worth skipping the drive. Now on to see how much the rental car would be. I know about the Magical Express, but I really hesitate to be without a car. I think I might feel "trapped!" Yikes, that sounds like a topic for another thread, but thanks everyone for the input!
