Song of the South Poll

After reading the Song of the South thread, I thought I would post this poll and see what the majority would like to see happen.

I voted A, but only because it is the closest to what, I think, will eventually happen. Someday, maybe even soon, Disney will release it to American audiences, but not stand-alone, I mean they will have some kind of introduction to the books and the movie and the time period to lessen the roar from those who criticize it by reputation.

I think the correct choice is (e) Disney will release it in its original form but with explanatory surroundings.

No one has edited Gone With the Wind to make it more PC. I say that is far less PC than SotS.

I'm with Larry. They should, and probably will, release it un-edited, but with supplemental material to explain its context.

On a side note, a couple of things make this different than Gone with the Wind, for example. SotS's audience will include many more children, who aren't going to understand the context like most adults would. Also, if anyone wants to complain, they will know exactly who to go to (one of the disadvantages to brand name recognition). With GwtW, most people wouldn't know who to complain to.

That's not to say they shouldn't release it, because they should. I'm just saying they do need to do it with care.

The worse thing that Disney can ever do is bow down the those who wish everything to be PC. Lets get real people, SOTS first off is a Class A film now as well as it was for its time. As a student of History I have read many old slave songs and stories and Braer Rabbit and Braer Fox are in those stories which are dated back to the 19th century. To change them to make them PC is wrong...whats next will publishers be reprinting Mark Twain to make his works which are classics more PC just because of those who wish the world was All PC. I would rather not see Song of the South at all, then see Disney put out a PC version.

I'd like to see it in its original form, but can you imagine the stories if or when the PC Police start roasting Disney ..

"... the complaints about the release of SotS are just another in a string of recent embarrasing events surrounding Disney, stung by internal power struggles, the "Tigger" trial, and a line of box office bombs..."

My guess is that ME doesn't want that kind of publicity.

Let's be real. No matter what Disney does regarding SoS it will be wrong in the eye's of most media.

Either:
"Disney bows to the pressure to PC SoS..."
or
"Disney rereleases a blatant racist movie..."

I for one would love to see it as is and would not have aproblem showing my 3year old DS.
