Song not flying out of EWR after Sept 6?

I was on the Song website to check ticket prices for an October trip and a message popped up saying to select another date. The ERW to MCO flight was discontinued as of Sept 6. I am guessing this is part of Delta's cost savings measures. Darn! I liked Song. They were always cheaper then CO when going to Orlando.

I am also in central NJ, and fly Song out of JFK and LaGuardia to save $$. Last 3 trips, booked $59/each way fare to MCO. It stinks driving out there, but it is worth it to us (family of 6). :smooth:

Oh say it isn't so...I purchased tickets for next March already!!!

they are just waiting for the press release to make it official. I am to call back and will obviously get a full refund, but they are not sure if anything will be reallocated for the NJ market at this point. What a shame. I am too far northwest to make LGA or JFK work for me. :sad2:

Laura, thanks for the info. I found it odd that there was no news on the discontinued flight either on the Song web site or in the local papers. (The Star Ledger always has a small blurb about the airlines adding/removing flight from EWR.) Like I said, I am sad to see Song leave EWR. I really like flying with them and having another non-stop option to get to Orlando other then CO.

we are going in just 16 days and booked JetBlue out of JFK, because they had the best price. We are also going in November and when I checked flights out of EWR, they were significantly more than LGA back in March so I booked Song out of LGA. Now that they are discontinuing the flights out of EWR, I guess we'll have to go to LGA at a minimum, unless Cont. lowers their price.

We loved our flight in December on Song out of EWR. They were on time, the staff was pleasant and helpful and the larger seats and TV's at every seat were great for our kids.

Wonder why they decided to cut the route. Every time I checked the flights seemed full.

I too fly out of EWR. I just booked a flight with USA 3000 out of EWR to MCO for a trip next March. They were much cheaper (in the $100 range cheaper) than anything I could find at any of the NYC airports. JetBlue was the closest, but I would have to travel to JFK. And being that I am 20 minutes door-to-door to EWR, USA 3000 was the clear choice.

The only downside with them is that they only fly on Mon, Wed, and Fri to Orlando, at least starting next year. But you may want to give them a look. We got 3 adults and an infant for $519 with tax.

I booked two seats on Song - EWR to MCO Oct 15, return Oct 23. I used Skymiles points (50,000) for free nonstop flights! There is nothing that indicates our route has been discontinued. I NEED to find out if this has been discontinued - we already have our WDW trip confirmed and paid for. I don't have the cash for different flights! Where can I find information to confirm?

Try to book a cash reservation for 9/6. You'l get a pop up.

See what other airports work for you. Be prepared to argue your case in until you find someone who will book you, using your FF tickets, on another flight even if FF seats aren't available. You already made your plans.

You'll probably wind up having to fly out of JFK.

I just checked the Delta Skymiles site. My flights on Song are still listed as "confirmed". Then I called Delta. (Took a LONG time to get to an actual human voice!). They also told me my flights are confirmed. It's strange, but for some reason I trust the DIS info over what Delta told me! Everyone here seems so knowledgeable.
Flying out of JFK or even LaGuardia is NOT something DH would consider. We always use the same car service to EWR and have a great rate. Oh, what to do!?
Our first and last days itineries at WDW are based on our flight times! I don't know what else to do to confirm information one way or the other!

It doesnt surprise me. Dont they already fly out of JFK? Probably not in there best interest to fly out of 2 airport in the same market area. Espically with todays financial conditions among the major airlines. Sorry to hear they wont be flying out of near were you are.

Matt

Try to make a reservation and look at the message. No reason for Song to lie about service being cancelled. No reason to displace more passengers by continuing to make reservations. It was posted that Song was waiting for the official press release before they officially post it and start moving passengers.

You said you need to use your FF free seats. Limits your choices. Tell Delta you already made plans based on those dates and you want to be accomodated. Your best bet is to fly out of JFK. You might be able to fly Delta out of EWR if you take a connecting flight, probably ATL.

Call your car service, ask them how much to JFK and to LGA. Could you drive and use something like Avistar.

My guess is your options will be another airport, a connecting flight or cancel your trip.

Pop up come when you try to make a reservation before the terminaiton date then change your dates to try to book after 9/6 The Pop-up says:
The service between MCO and EWR will be discontinued on Sept 06, 2005. Please select an earlier date (s).

I guess Delta could change their mind since we haven't seen a press release.

I just got off the phone with Song. This is no rumor - Song flights out of Newark (EWR) discontinue after Sept. 6. I was told it was losing $. (Sorry, but it makes no sense...every Song flight I've ever taken out of EWR has been fully booked!) Anyway....my options were to fly non-stop out of LaGuardia, JFK or Hartford. But those airports are extremely inconvenient and expensive to get to. Our other option is to fly with connections in Atlanta (going) or Cincinnati (return). Problem is that there are no flights that get us to WDW as early as our original flights. And....we would have to return a few hours earlier too. That totally messes up our WDW itinerary and cuts two of our days short! We are not allowed to use the Skymiles and change dates, only departure times.....sigh! On the up side...after my long tale of woe to the Delta rep on the phone, they will rebank 25,000 of our miles per ticket.
I have been planning every detail of this vacation carefully, and now this! I tentatively rebooked connecting flights - I have until tomorrow midnight to confirm. Don't know what else to do, except to book a nonstop on Continental and put it on a cc! I need to sleep on it......

It's not just the load factor but also the fares that are used to fill the plane. Airlines can't make money if the entire flight is filled with passengers with deeply discounted fares.

You might be able to push and use your tickets on flights the night before. Tell them you already have plans that can't be changed. Just be prepared to have to appeal. Make sure you find out how much flights will be on Continental before you cancel your FF reservations.

I can't believe this! I LOVE Delta Song. I was afraid to fly since 9/11 and flew for the first time this past December. Song was great - right on time and the TV's were wonderful. They helped to keep my mind off of flying and occupied the kids. I figured this is how we were to fly to Disney every year. I even signed up for the Delta AMEX card for the miles.

Thank God I booked our August trip leaving Delta Song on 8/25 and returning Continental on 9/7. The rates were just too high on Song for that day. I have been waiting since January and just made our reservations last week when Continentals rates went down.

Yield is more important than load factor in the airlines' eyes. It costs the same amount to operate the flight no matter the ticket cost. Say you have 200 seats on the plane and the average ticket price (one way) is $100. So the airline is receiving $20,000 with 100 percent load factor. Now lets say the average ticket price (one way) is $150 and only a 75 percent load factor...the airline is receiving $22,500.

Song cancelling our flight has turned out to be a good thing!! After several hours of being bounced around on the phone today, we have moved our Delta Sky Miles to a flight on Continental. Our original Song flights were Oct 15-23 in coach. Now we are flying first class Oct 13-24, and the best part is we are using 10,000 LESS sky miles and I get three more days in WDW! Who knew? Now I've got to call my AAA agent and see about adding days to our reservation.

I wonder if there will be any changes to LGA and JFK, considering these two airports are less then a 1/2 hour from each other. Both fly non-stop into MCO.
