song fares- will they come down?

I'm looking at all the available flights on Song for Hartford and Boston for my dates in early March.
Just as a curiosity I clicked to see the seating charts for all of the available flights. *NONE* of them is more than 1/3 full, and most of them have a pitiful 10 or so seats sold with only 5 months to go!!! I am wondering if you think Song will try dropping the fares to compete more closely with Southwest in these markets?
Thanks for the opinions! :)

Were you aware that Song has added the 7:00 am and 6:00 pm flights back into their itinerary from Boston? I did a random search for a day in March and a roundtrip for these times on the 6th is 200.00. I think thats a great price, but I'm not sure if you were looking for something even lower than that? Good luck.
p.s. I wonder if the flights that you were looking at that were one third full, were the ones that they just added yesterday morning (early and late).

I don't think ten (out of 200) seats sold with five months to go is cause for alarm on the part of Song's management. They already have historical information on how quickly various dates and flights sell.

Class "U" is the everyday low price. Class "T" is the competition beating fare war sale price.

Fare reductions can occur in these ways:

1a. Offering some class "T" seats if there were none before,

1b. Adding more seats to previously sold out classes.

2. Lowering fares here and there or across the board in which case "U" fares can come down,

3. Other passengers cancel their reservations and their seats are added back to the previously sold out "U" or other class(es). Class "L" is higher than "U", class "M" is higher than "L", and class "Y" is the highest, to name a few on Song.

Almost all airlines have a similar system but to add confusion, their class letters are not all the same as Delta/Song.

5 months is still a long way to go. If the flights don't start filling up by the 60 day mark, then yeah, you'll start seeing some fare sales. Maybe even sooner to compete with Southwest.

Thanks for the informed responses. I am really hoping that once the Southwest fares come out for the dates of my travel that we will see some competition out of Hartford. Boston is my second choice as I really want that 7 AM arrive and 6PM depart schedule that Jillpie wrote about, but can't see making my kids get up at 3AM to do it. We could stay at Logan, but that is another expense.....anyway- I'm keepin' my fingers crossed for a fare war!
;)

Lodgelady,

Another thing to think about if you want to fly out of Logan, is that there is a Sheraton Tara Hotel in Braintree, MA and it is literally across the street from the Logan Express shuttle. You can find the link Sheraton Braintree

There is also a new Marriot in Quincy pretty close to the Logan Express as well Marriot Quincy

I imagine both hotels would be able to shuttle you to the Logan Express and let you leave your car.

Hope this helps a little

Jet Blue just announced they are flying from Boston starting in January. Prices right now are running about $150 R/T. Give them a try, or maybe Song will drop prices for competing flights; Songs prices for the same days I am flying are now running from $220-325 depending on the flight.

From Amherst, there is no reason to come all the way to Boston. Better to take a flight with 1 connection, and save the time money and hassle of schlepping into Logan, parking long-tem, staying overnight... YUK! I'd offer you our guest room, as we are 15 miles from Logan and on the T, but we are under construction still, and I don't really know you...;)

Actually, it would seem that Song reallocated the equipment that it was using for the extra BDL-MCO slot it just cancelled, and switched it to the BOS-MCO slot, since the flights from Logan seem to be filling up nicely; we'll see what happens once JetBlue begins competing on this route.

Bradley is such a great little airport, and so convenient to the whole Connecticut valley region. Plus with Southwest flying there, it is only a matter of time until the good fares come out from BDL. My advice: sit tight until the Southwest fares come out.

Debbie<----thinking of all the souveniers she can buy with the $$$ she just saved!

You guys are great!
I am committed to a direct flight because of the chances for weather complications likely in early March (which is why we need a vacation from New England then!) and because we usually take a connecting flight and every time I am amazed at how much time it eats out of our vacation! I am leaning toward Bradley for the reasons Pumkinboy(great name btw)said. Bradley is a great little airport and easy to breeze through security and short walks everywhere. It is only one hour from our front door. Thanks for the thought about your guestroom....very kind! :p
Fab news for everyone about Jet Blue! Way to go debster812- glad you made out there!:bounce:
