My son who is 10 really wants a haircut at the barbershop on mainstreet. He has seen all of those crazy colored gels and is dying for it.
My question is:
If we go there first thing in the morning is there usually a long wait? I hate to waste time there.
Should we go later in the day?
How much are boys haircuts? Also if I may ask, What do you usually tip? I feel like that when you are in disney you should give a little more.
Thanks

Children's haircuts are $14.00. My DD11 had her hair cut yesterday (can't believe we're home already!!) We gave the stylist $20.00 for the cut and a tip. It wasn't too crowded when we were there - about 3:00pm. As a matter of fact, it was perfect because my daughters and I got to watch the afternoon parade from the (air conditioned!) comfort of the barbershop!! That was really great timing...

You never know how the wait is going to be. Our best bet...what we try and do and are going to try and do on 9/8 or the next week. Is be at the park at opening and I dart over to the barbershop..while Hubby makes his way thru the crowd w/son in stroller ( I can usually make it quicker) Usually we do not have to wait, or maybe wait thru 1 person. But, by the time we are done (about 1/2 an hour later) there are usually at least 5-10 haircuts waiting in line.

We have gone around lunch time and had no luck..so we went to tony's had lunch and went back and only had to wait thru 1 person..you really never know. If it is too long of a wait, you can always check back later in the day.
I hope my son will get the gel this year..he is going to be 4 and has always said he didn't want it, even when daddy got it!! Hopefully this year, he'll do it!! :pug: :pug: :pug: :pug: :pug:

and had quite a wait and it was a bit later in the afternoon.

If your son wants the gel, then I'd try to do it as early in the day as possible to get maximum exposure out of the design. If you do it later and then head back to the hotel, I would probably recommend washing it out before putting his head on the pillow. That stuff stains!

My son got so many compliments on the rides from others because it looked so great. And the haircut was terrific.

Just a side note: they also do WONDERFUL first haircuts!!

My DS received his first haircut there last fall......he got the haircut, mouseears w/"first haircut", pixie dust, certificate, and tons of stickers all for $20!! We did tip well though.

We still say that barber shop is the best deal in the "World"!

Is there something on the disneyworld website or a different website with more info on the barber shop?

Thanks

Can adults get their hair cut there? Or is it pretty much for kids?

My DD then 13 got a very nice hair cut an her hair styled for the day in Oct 03.

They also tossed some pixie dust in my hair at random a couple of times. I have very very curly hair and after being in the hotel pool, waterpark and washing my hair at least daily I STILL CAME HOME WITH A FEW PIECES OF PIXIE DUST IN MY HAIR LOL
Not that I minded I found it funny.

Also DH had a mickey head painted on the back of his bald head with the colored gel this was an afterthought after we'd already paid done by the hairdresser we did not ask for it.

BTW Yes they do adult haircuts way back in 03 when I was checking into DD gettin her hair cut there was a huge thread on the dis about the hair cuts in the MK. Many adults said this was the only place they allow anyone to take sissors to their hair.

There was maybe 4 ppl ahead of us in line we waited maybe 30 minutes. DH took our passes walked over to Space Mountain and got our fast passes while we waited. He was back in time to take plenty of pics of DD getting her hair cut and all prettied up for the day.

As far as the gel staining as long as it's disney sheets and pillow cases I wouldn't worry to much about it. Might lay a towel on his pillow that night but that be about as far as I would go with it. Might be nice if you took an old towel from home for this purpose rather than staining a disney towel.

I agree with DVCLiz. We head to the barber shop around 2:30 and after DS's haircut we are in the perfect spot to watch the parade. We always tip also. My son is 11 and loves the looks and compliments he gets after his haircut and gel.

All ages are welcome.
We wandered in just before they closed one day and hubby was able to get a haircut. Which was great since we were heading off on the Disney Magic a few days later.
If you can find a good time to do it (for your schedule and the lines at the barber shop) take a break from the rides and get a hair cut. We had fun talking to the barber and it was nice to get out of the heat.

Both DS (then 8) and I had our haircut there. It's a blast. And he got compliments everywhere he went!

Hmmm - may be something to do in three weeks when we are back down there!
