Sometimes my company "gets it"... and sometimes they don't.

Kinda funny. I've been at my job a whole lot of years. And every Thanksgiving and Christmas they have provided dinner for the crew. Very nice thing to do. Most people appreciate it. Usually the food is just "ok" but the thought is nice. And, usually there are "SOME' leftovers.

This Christmas they did not provide it. Some people were angry becasue they did not bring food and there wasn't any place open to order dinner. They thought the company should have said that they were not providing dinner --- this tradition goes back at least 20 years. Some people complained.

So, tonight, without telling us, ( NY DAY ) they decided to provide dinner. Most people had brought dinner with them, as this has never been done on NY day before.

So, for about TWENTY employees, they supplied the following:

48 Hoagies
16 Pizzas
10 Large chef salads
10 Large garden salads
100 chicken wings
Soup... I would guess about 2 gallons
about 10 bags of chips and pretzels
20 two liter bottles of soda
72... yes, 72 slices of cheesecake... 3 cakes at 24 slices per cake. ALL OF THEM had cherries on top.
3 pies
and more condiments than 100 people would need.

Sometimes they get it.... sometimes they don't! :rotfl2:

I have been noticing that some companies don't even give out turkeys for Thanksgiving or Christmas anymore.
I wonder why the company didn't let you know what was up. Seems like some one dropped the ball.

Sounds like they coulda fed the whole town on that. :rotfl: I agree with those who thought the least the company could have done would have been to acknowledge that they wouldn't be providing dinner on Thanksgiving and Christmas. It certainly not an obligation, but..........

My husband's company kinda weirded out this year too. They normally get a caterer to bring in a meal for Christmas (it's not on Christmas day because everyone is on vacation that week but it is a day that everyone knows about in advance). This year, they just decided to send out for pizza from Dominoes (YUK). So, what did they do? They ordered a large pizza for every single solitary employee!!! Who in the heck can eat a large pizza themselves?

It was kind of sad though. The order went in that someone would be at Dominoes to pick it up at 11 AM. The owner mistakenly wrote PM on the order (though he admitted he was aware that it was for the AM and totally his mistake). There was only 1 employee working when they went to pick the pizzas up and oppppps, none were made and it was not a possibility for 1 employee to do it all. I guess people were called in right away and they got the pizzas 2 hours late and there was absolutely no charge for any of them. They also gave away free pizzas to anyone who'd ordered in the meantime because they couldn't get those orders filled right away either. I love that they stood behind their mistake, but I still feel bad for that poor man. What a loss!

Anyway, now they have all that money and they're going to have a catered meal sometime once everyone gets back from vacation.

:earseek: Now that's a lot of food, hope the people who worked were allowed to take home some leftovers. Better yet they should have called their family's to come and have dinner with them.(I know against company policy)

The shame of it is, pre 911, this would have been totally acceptable.

My SisIL works for a company that does things like this with no warning. Sounds like someone didn't plan too well.
Maybe they had money that had to be spent so they splurged and over ordered. Bon Apetit!

Seems like maybe the company didn't plan ahead. You would think that after doing it for some 20 years that they would have done it this year. Not that they had to, but thats what they had been doing all along. And then to order so much extra food for new years day? Someone wasn't thinking. Or they had the munchies and were projecting.

It's the thought that counts! :rotfl2:

Yeah, I agree. Nice thought. Shame they didn't think it through all the way. :)
