Fox News is showing a person being taken away on a stretcher (sp?),being put in an ambulance. Could see the person moving so didn't appear to be critically hurt. Fox is showing an aerial view and saying they don't know exactly what happened?

Bummer, hope it's not serious. That's my favorite ride.

I just saw it on CNN headline. They said that a train derailed and at least one person could be critical. :(

OMG. Person I saw looked like they were talking and gesturing with their hands, didn't see anyone else being moved, that is so awful.

Fox is now saying AP reporting 11 injured but they won't say severity of injuries. Fox also says a locomotive broke loose causing cars to derail :(

Oh I so hate to hear this. Fox now too says one person may be critical and has been taken to Univ of Irvine hospital. I'm hoping everyone recovers from their injuries.

That is horrible. I always think of Disney as being so safe. I can't believe this happened. For once it doesn't appear to be the riders lack of judgement (like trying to jump out of a Sp MT log).

very sad abc news just reported that the injured man died....

prayers for all the victims of this tragedy..

Oh that is too awful. My heart goes out to all who were involved and praying for all the families.

They have an article regarding this on MSN news now too. According to them one person was killed while on the ride and another critically injured was taken to a hospital.

The Fox News site (www.foxnews.com) has the most detailed reporting. The man died inside the ride, in a tunnel. They left him there for a while for investigation. Injured range from age 9 to age 47. One has moderate injuries; the rest have minor injuries.

I just saw the report on Fox news. I just can't believe it....those poor people and their families. This is our favorite family ride and our yougest DD's very favorite. Prayers and {{{{{{{{Hugs}}}}}}}} to everyone involved. Below is a copy of the story on the Fox new site.

ANAHEIM, Calif. — A locomotive broke loose from a train on Disneyland's Big Thunder Mountain Railroad (search) roller coaster attraction Friday, killing a man and injuring 10 other riders, officials said.

The man died inside the ride and his body remained there for the investigation, said city spokesman John Nicoletti. No information about his identity was immediately released.

The injured ranged in age from 9 to 47, he said. One had moderate injuries and the other cases were considered minor. Six were taken to the University of California Irvine Medical Center (search), two were taken to Westerm Medical Center and two were treated at the scene and released.

"On behalf of the entire cast of the Disneyland Resort (search) we are shocked and saddend," said Cynthia Harris, president of Disneyland Resort.

The accident occurred inside a tunnel section of the ride, said police Sgt. Rick Martinez. What exactly happened was not known.

"At this point it appears to be a tragic accident," Martinez said.

The ride is designed to look like an old fashioned locomotive pulling cars, which can hold as many as 32 people. The ride operator is not aboard the train.

The accident was reported at 11:22 a.m. and firefighters arrived in two minutes, officials said.

The roller coaster takes amusement park visitors on a twisting, turning ride aboard what is supposed to be a runaway train in the Old West. Riders zoom through mineshafts and caverns, past falling rocks and tumbling waterfalls.

The ride is computer operated, said Joe Aguirre, a park spokesman. It opened in 1979 and is newer than the Space Mountain attraction, which opened in 1977, and Matterhorn Bobsleds, which debuted in 1959.

That's horrible news.:( My prayers are with the families involved.

Gosh, I've been away from the computer playing with my girls and scrapbooking all afternoon. My heart just sank when I read this, I feel so horrible for all the people involved. I've always thought of Disney as the safest of the safe and this doesn't sound so good - I wonder what and how this happened. Anyone else VERY sad and affected by this emotionally or am I just hormonal?
