Something weird I saw at work

Teller the other half of Penn and teller had his name legally changed so he has no first name so its been done before.

I used to work at a gym years ago, and Teller came in wanting to check it out. I asked his name, and he said, Teller. I asked for his full name, and he said that was it. I realized who he was at that point.

Maybe they are in the witness protection program?

One of my best friends changed his name to just one name, no last name. Totally legal and legit, so all his credit cards, ID, paycheck, etc either have the one name or sometimes the name repeats. I assume that is only because some computer programs won't take a single name. So, you could probably choose to repeat your single name or to use "unknown". I have two hyphenated names and I encounter problems with computer programs and forms all the time. (yes i know, aren't I a special snowflake, lol) For my signature I only write my first name. Your signature can be anything you want it to be, there's no legal reason you have to write your whole name out. It's best to be consistent of course. :thumbsup2

I also have a friend from college that legally dropped her surname when she was 18. She only goes by her first name. Her id and credit cards state her first name only. Her last name was a 17 syllable nightmare and she was tired of having to pronounce it and spell it for everyone, so she just dropped it. She is known simply as Frangelica (or franny as we call her) which is not very common anyway.

I'm sorry, I was actually commenting on a PPs post. This is bizarre. You will have to keep us posted if you hear anything. But I guess if it went thru, it was legit!

I tried to find something on Google, but got nowhere. I did, however, find this really funny article about signing credit card receipts with silly names.:lmao:

Oh, I know! I should have quoted them as well. I was just responding to the thread in general. :goodvibes

It appears I have gotten my answer! That this happens and is possible. I still find it weird that someone wouldn't want a last name, just make one up if you want because it seems like it would make life easier. Thanks for everyone's replies!

17 syllables?:scared1: I can't imagine. I think in that case, I'd just shorten it to three or four.

I don't know why people would just want to have a first name. That seems so strange. I mean, I guess it works for Sting, Cher, and Bono, but regular people :confused3

I called my friend and asked her if I could post her last name and she said "sure, why not- I doubt anyone else in the US has it!" So here it is:
Nirriatpattanasai. We asked her why she didn't just shorten, but really, what would you shorten it to? Plus she is of Thai descent and her father (thai) forbid her to shorten it. Her mother is Italian, hence the first name.

ohhhhhhhh 17 letters, not syllables....

This is not as strange granted but my sons first name is just the letter W :goodvibes
He thinks it is cool people ask him about it all the time . He has never went by anything but his middle name . When he is fighting he fights under a "fighter" name anyway . When he is training other fighters they call him Coach ;)

May I ask why just the initial. If he went by his middle name, that makes more sense, but did you not like a first name that started with W?

In some cultures, people only go by one name. A good friend of mine told me her parents emigrated to the US with only one name. But when she was born, the hospital refused to issue a birth certificate without a first and last name, so she ended up with her father's one and only name as her last name. But in her culture, almost everyone (except for royalty or clergy) had only one name.

Long story short , Every male in my ex husbands family has the same initials and most of the good names were taken . We did give him a full 1st name but it is his Dads and he didnt like it so he had us change it when he was about 16 believe it or not it did not bother me nor did it bother his Dad so he has just a letter for his 1st name :thumbsup2
