Something Special for my Mom...

Well, my step mom actually, but she needs something special. My Dad was killed 10 months ago on the job and it has been a rough year for everyone. They were married over 20 years and shared custody of us kids so we lived with her since I was 7 or 8. My brother has been especially helpful to our her - stepping in as the man of the house since my father's death. (We live over 3 hours away). Anyway, she is taking my brother's twins to WDW - as a way to thank my brother (who definitely can't afford to take them himself) and because she and my dad had gone 2 years ago and he said while they were there that he wanted to go back with the twins. So it is a bittersweet trip for everyone.

Long story short I want to do something for them (and her specifically) to make the trip special. It can't be spa treatments or a night out as she will be alone with them. They are staying at one of the All Stars but I don't know which one yet and they are going next month. Any Suggestions? Maybe somehting delivered to the room? Something for her or for them to brighten the trip? My dad was famous for surprises and always had special things delivered to her in restaurants and I want to carry something on for him. :flower3:

The Disney florist can bring flowers to the room. You can call the resort and make arrangement prior to arriving. A fun thing to do is to have a character come to the room. I think you still call (407)WDW-DINE to book that. Another fun thing that is less expensive is to take her for a special viewing of the firework show from the lake. Disney rents boats and they can take your family out and even have sanwiches. I think that is a great surprise and runs about $120. Call the same number for that. I think they do it at MK and Epcot.

I sent flowers to my Mom at her hotel once. I actually called the hotel to get the name & number of a local florist so I wouldn't have to pay FTD charges. The flowers were delivered to her room.

Or perhaps order some scrumptious candy from Rogers Chocolates in Canada. They deliver to the White House and to the Queen of England! I love the vanilla cremes the best. The maple cremes are good too!

Or perhaps ship some "Bath & Body Works" to her. I once took some Estee Lauder lotion to Disney. Now whenever I wear it, the fragrance reminds me of our trip.

Count my vote in for the boat trip for Wishes or Illuminations! I think that would be a great special time for them all. No matter what suggestion you take from us folks, Im sure the gesture in itself will be the best gift to her! Nothing beats love. :grouphug:

I vote for Wishes or Illuminations too!! What a wonderful gift this would be for her and the grandbabies.. :cheer2:

Thanks for the replies. I think the boat trip will be a good idea for them. I have to call my brother and make sure the girls aren't afraid of the fireworks first, though! I hope they have a good time. I mean, I know they will but I hope they REALLY have a good time!

Visit the homemade t-shirt thread on the cooking, craft, and scrapping board for some ideas to make matching t-shirts for their trip. This can be very inexpensive and is also a lasting memory of their trip. :)

your post just brought tears to my eyes!

you are so sweet to do this for them.. I vote for the cruise! They will love the show!

How about tickets to Hoop Dee Doo? or money for a character breakfast--you could even set it up for them, if you mom doesn't know how.

How old are the girls? I also think a princess meal or fireworks cruise would be nice. If the girls are old enough why not use the kids clubs and treat her to a spa treatment. A manicure or pedicure wouldn't take long. Matching t-shirts are a cute idea. Susan

An honest opinion of the 2 cruises. If the twins do not like loud noises...wishes may be better. We did illuminations last week and it was very loud, I had to help my son block his ears, as it was bothering him.

Wishes was fine as you are further away...plus you have the music on the boat.

Just an opinion...if I was to do one again (and probably will) it would be Wishes..I personally liked it better.

A cruise would be great....but since they are going next month it may be difficult to get. Of course there are cancellations so you can sometimes get them at this late date....but they go at 90 days out usually. But after saying all that...I would still try if you think they would enjoy that.

I have a couple of cute plushes that would like to meet the twin girls. If you PM me with the date they will be checking in, the name the reservation is under, which All Stars resort they will be staying in and the first names of the girls, I will have the plushes waiting for the girls when they arrive. I also might have a little something for your mom. Please send me her first name as well. It's on me!

I just have to say Feralpeg, you a such a wonderful, giving person! All the good that you do for others, will come back to you and your daughter tenfold!

Hope things are going well for your daughter!
