Something special for 11th b-day (girl)

My niece will be turning 11 the week after our trip, so I wanted to do something special at WDW for her. Originally my soon-to-be step niece, same age, was going with us and I had booked them on one of the pirate adventure cruises as a surprise. Well my brother and her mom broke up, so now it's just my niece. I am not sure how fun the cruise would be for her alone.

Should I just go ahead with the original plan, or do something different? She is too old (according to her) for BBB, Princess meals, and tea parties, I guess

Here are some ideas:

* take her for manicure at one of the Disney spas (they have offerings for kids too)

* take her for her own personal cruise in a mouseraycer boat at one of the marinas

* explore Disneyquest

* have a meal at the T-Rex restaurant in DTD and build a dino (like build a bear --- how could you be too old for build a bear/dino??!!)

* go to MVMCP together

Oh, I don't think she is too old for BBB. In fact, that's exactly what we did for DD11's birthday last year. I let her pick where she wanted to eat breakfast and dinner. She chose 1900 PF for breakfast, then we went to MK, went to BBB with her 2 sisters, back to hotel to get costumes on, then to Chef Mickeys for dinner, then MNSSHP. Now, back here in NJ, she would definitely consider herself too old to do all that stuff, but in Disney - you're never too old. She was fussed over all day and she loved it. If you're staying onsite, make sure you tell them when you check in when her birthday is and they will deliver balloons and a card to your room. Also, ask for a birthday button - she will get "happy birthday" all day long!

How about the pick a pearl in Japan? Heard nice things about it on the boards. It would be fun to do and she would have something to remind her of your trip.

Isn't it the truth! Before we went to WDW last year, dd12 (then 11) was like "I'd rather go to the beach than Disney!" Our trip was a surprise, and I was thrilled that she seemed to turn back into a child, right before my eyes! I could totally see my cool, trendy dd doing BBB in Disney - never at home! She happily wore her tinkerbell shirt, her lanyard, and got autographs, too! Nothing like WDW to bring out everyone's inner geek!
