and I wanted to share it here.
This is only the 2nd time I'm staying 'off site' in Anaheim. It will, I'm sure, come as a shock to many of you to learn that I'm a bit of a snob when it comes to hotels, and the thought of staying anywhere but the DL hotel is anathema to me.
Since I needed three rooms this trip, I searched around and found a good deal at the Sheraton Anaheim. I was more than a little concerned that I would get here, take one look at it and immediately ferry the family over to the DL - cost be damned.
While the hotel is nice, and the beds are comfortable, I was still on the fence this morning - until it was time to go to the parks.
We rented a scooter for my Mom for the week. While she can get around okay, walking thru theme parks these days are a bit of a challenge (she has a very bad back) and I wanted her to enjoy herself as pain free as possible this week.
After what I must admit was an excellent breakfast at the hotel, we went outside to catch the shuttle to the parks. A bellman noticed my Mom's scooter and asked us where we planned to go today. I said Disneyland and she told us to 'stay right there'. A few minutes later, a large van pulled around and the driver told us that he would be taking us over to the parks. The standard bus they have here does not have the ability to handle a scooter. I was impressed by this - but it was nothing compared to my reaction when the driver told us that when we were ready to come back that we should call the hotel and they would send the van back to pick us up. Well, I was floored - they were providing private direct transportation just for us because we had someone in a wheelchair!!!
I'll admit, I practically emptied my pockets of cash to give this guy a tip. Not just because I was impressed with the service, but because they were taking such good care of my Mom. And before anyone suggests that they did this because they knew what I did for a living, I can assure you -they don't. And even if they did, the bellman who saw us outside certainly didn't - this was just what they do.
The service at this hotel is far better than the service I received at the DL hotel in February - and the room is less than half the price. I have to admit it - I'm really glad we chose to stay here - and Mom absolutely loves it!
