I want to share my recent odd experience.

Saw a really good deal on OKW 2 bed rm for 7 night (218 point) for $ 1750. Talked to the owner and agree the final price to 1500 (less than $7 per point). After that, I got a lot of false information:

- The lowest I'd be willing to rent the week out is $1500.00....that's less then $7 per point. If that works for you e-mail me back with your name, address and phone number and I'll have Disney get the reservation transferred into your name. They only do transfers on Mondays, so it would either be tomorrow or next Monday before everything would get switched into your name.

- Ok, I'll contact DVC as soon as they open Monday morning and have them transfer the reservation into your name. I've never contacted DVC on a Monday to do a transfer so I'm not sure if they will do the transfer the same day or make us wait until the following Monday? If they do the transfer tomorrow they will e-mail me a confirmation and I will forward it to you. You don't need to send me any money until after you've been able to call DVC and verify that they have your reservation.

- One thing I forgot to mention to you before I call DVC tomorrow. Disney charges a $95 fee to all non-dvc owners who are renting a villa.

- Disney charges me $89 to transfer my reservation into someone else's name (this is something I take care of and won't charge you for)

- He only asked for my personal info for transferring the reservation. My understanding is that Disney will need the info of the whole group who gonna stay in the villa.

Finally, I asked for reference. Only got name, address, and email. I email them and wish to talk to them on phone. One of them replied saying they are on cruise with no phone access but internet; however, the name of the email account showing on my outlook is the owner I talked to. How stupid is that!

I cannot proof anything but just don't feel comfortable to keep this deal going. BTW, I met this guy on *********** . com and he only have like 28 post, one thread for the same offer since Feb. If there is a need, PM me for the the details.

It sounds as if your "owner" is trying to transfer an RCI reservation, which is not allowed under RCI rules. If that owner has offered that reservation in the DIS Rent/Trade board, please send me a PM.

You did the right thing by walking away from that reservation.

May I ask what's wrong with the RCI reservation?

Renting an exchange is NOT allowed on the DIS and is also against the policy of RCI. There are some sites that allow such rentals to be offered as well as eBay, but the DIS has decided to limit rental transactions to reservations made directly by DVC members using their points. You might want to express your concerns about your rental on the site you are using.

There is a $95 fee for all exchanges (made by DVC), but there is no $89 fee charged by Disney for changing the name on an exchange. In this case, the seller is likely NOT a DVC member and thus the "less than $7" does not even apply since the reservation was not made using DVC points.

I'd take a pass on this reservation as there are just too many red flags.

RCI does not allow rental of exchanges.

if RCI is aware that someone rented their exchange to you, they may cancel the exchange, leaving the renter with nothing.

some get away with it, but it's not worth the extra risk IMO.

I answered your post yesterday, OP, about the "on Monday" thing and gave the renter the benefit of the doubt thinking maybe they didn't know that DVC Member Services now had Sunday hours for the past few years. Based on what you posted, I retract that totally and if I were you, I would not do any transaction with that person. I agree -- too many red flags.

I agree that they are probably trying to make $$ on an RCI exchange. Along with the exchange fee, there is a $95.00 additional resort fee.

Thanks everyone's input. I glad that I walked away. It is really not worth the risk.
